Meet Frodo
Hi there! I am Frodo, and I am looking for a foster/adopter in Old Greenwich CT
I am a 2 year old Border Collie / Aussie mix (we’re not quite sure). I am just finishing a “boot camp” with an ASF trainer in CT and am ready for a foster or knowledgeable adopter.
Some great things about me:
I am FAST. As in, REALLY fast. And I love to play fetch with tennis balls and frisbees. If you are looking for a potential disk catching, dock diving, flyball, or fast cat partner, I may be your guy!
I am SMART. I’m a quick learner. That can also work against me, so be careful what you teach me! When I want to go for a walk, I will even point at my leash to let you know! I am great at loose-leash walking and behave off leash too.
I am FUN – I love to play.
I am CUTE – I mean, just look at me!
I am FRIENDLY – I like people and other dogs, big and small.
Some of my challenges:
In training, I have been working on the following:
· Separation Anxiety
· Crate defensiveness / resource guarding
· Leash reactivity (mostly to men and barking dogs). Check out my videos though to see the progress I’ve made!
I do have a bite history, but that was some time ago. I have learned a great deal about bite inhibition (making sure I don’t bite hard) and have made a lot of progress with my training. I have a reported history of being harshly treated in the past, which has resulted in some of the issues above. I am learning patience and self-control, and really want to be a good boy – I just need help with making good choices.
My ideal adopter / foster would be an experienced dog owner who will be consistent and patient. I need someone who can establish rules and structure without harsh corrections, and who knows how to appropriately reward me for making the right decisions. It may take me a little while to trust you, and you will need to move slowly with me until I am comfortable. I am not a dog for an inexperienced owner, or for a family with children. If you have training experience and are looking for an active partner, I may be a great choice. My trainer and my friends at ASF say I have made great progress, and I have been able to meet new people without incident. My trainer will be available to assist with helping my adopter bond with me and continue my training.
I recently met the ASF CT rep, and was appropriate and well-behaved. It’s important to remember, though, that I need to follow a routine to keep me on the right path with my challenges. Sometimes it’s hard to remember that because I can be such a good boy sometimes that it’s easy to forget I can resource guard.
Even though I have some challenges, I really, really want my own family and I will be an awesome dog for the right home.
If you would like to learn more about me or think I may be a good fit for you, please fill out an application for me at:https://www.australianshepherdsfurever.org/adoption-application
