Meet Fred

Meet Fred! He is with adopt a golden rescue out of Knoxville. We have the pleasure of boarding him here with us and we have come to know this boy very well. He is an amazing dog!

He is sweet, affectionate, loves to go for hikes or walks, he likes to play with his person and act silly with them. He will lay on the ground for belly rubs all day long if you are willing. He can be couch potato if you allow him to be.
He is a big boy around 90 lbs and about 2.5 years old. He’s healthy and absolutely stunning.

Fred does take a little time to trust his new family. He will be just a little weary of you if you try to grab his neck or put a collar or harness on at first. Once he trusts you though you can handle him just fine. He had a few cuts from a small argument with another more dominant dog that we tended to and because he knew he could trust us he just laid there and allowed us to clean the cuts up and put antiseptic on them. He was an absolutely sweetie about it.

He did well with grooming, he’s not used to it yet. Towards the end of his grooming session he got a little grumpy with the groomer because he didn’t know her very well. He does like to meet new people and is friendly with new people when out in public.

No cats he likes to chase them. He gets along great with most every dog he meets unless they try to dominate him. He’s not entirely dominant but he won’t tolerate another dog trying to do that to him.

We cannot understand why this guy is not in his furever home yet, other than maybe his size. Adopt a Golden generally attracts people
Looking for Golden’s and typically pure breed Goldens but Adopt a Golden will open its arms to a mixed breed when they can. We think people
May be a bit surprised by learning he’s a bit bigger. That’s all we can think is holding him back from finding his furever family, because everyone who meets him Loves him.

He will do well in a home with older kids that know boundaries. Kids old enough to understand you do not hang on the dog or hug and kiss the dog etc.

We thought we would share him with a larger following group that may not be looking for a pure breed golden. Whomever makes him a part of their family will absolutely hit the jackpot. He is such a great boy. He does have what we think is a Great Pyrenees behavior traits with the look of a gorgeous golden retriever. He has more protective vibes while in his yard than a golden and he can be independent. He doesn’t usually need another dog playmate to be happy. He is most happy with his people.

He is located in east TN currently boarding with Pawsitively K9 in Athens TN.
