Name: Fred
Nicknames: Freddy, Frederick, Mr. Merc (after Freddie Mercury)
Age: Born 8/13/19
Activity Level: Fairly active. He has bouts of playing really hard for 1-2 hours followed by a nap of equal time.
Things I do in my free time: Play with the dogs (one 4 year old male pittie & one 1 year old female bull terrier), chew on toys, learn new tricks.
Things I know: My name, sit, to potty outside, sleep in my crate, and the “it’s your choice game”.
Things I am learning: Come, sit patiently for my meals (this is very difficult as I LOVE food time), now to chew on hands, not to jump on people, and walking nicely on a leash.
Kids: My foster parents think I’d do well with kids. Recently I made friends with a 3 year old and they were impressed I didn’t jump all over her. I played really well with her. Previous foster parents have said I met older kids and they all loved me too.
Dogs: Yes please! I love other dogs and really want to play with them all the time. I tend to be shy when we first meet and will try to hide. My foster parents just kept telling me I was doing a good job and that I was being a good boy when they the dogs came to sniff me. I was shy for a couple minutes and then we became best friends. Now I’m not shy at all.
Cats: I have not met any cats yet but foster parents think I would do just fine. I’m not overly curious and I listen well. Whether it would be humans or a cat telling me to back off, I would listen.
Size: 25 pounds at my last vet visit on 12/6/19.
Car rides: I ride in my small kennel while I’m in the car. I whine for a little bit but then calm down.
Additional Info from foster parent: Fred has been a wonderful puppy. It’s hard to remember he’s so young since he’s so easy. Yes, he will chew on anything he can get a hold of so toys are always around him but he’s almost completely potty trained. Fred does a great job of giving a bark or whine when he’s needing to go outside. He also sleeps in his kennel throughout the night (a small plastic enclosed kennel) without accidents. He might whine for 5 or so minutes but will settle down and sleep the rest of the night. He does well with listening to our older male when he’s done playing. Fred will know to leave him alone and will go play with our younger female or chew on some toys. He is very shy when meeting new dogs but it doesn’t take long for him to warm up to them. He listens to you telling him he’s doing just fine and will come out of his shell quickly. After that, he’s good to go and they’ll play forever. Fred is a very smart puppy. He learned the “it’s your choice game” within minutes. If you’re not familiar with the game, it essentially teaches the dog patience. I have started incorporating this during when he gets fed in order to try and keep him from jumping all over. He just gets so excited when food is involved. He is eager to learn and could go very far in obedience training with someone willing to put the time into it. The sky is the limit with this pup.
Fred’s background: Fred came from TX with his other siblings when they were almost 8 weeks old. They were known as the “Annie Litter” because their mom was hit by a car after she gave birth. All of his brothers & sisters were adopted and he’s been waiting to find his home.
