Frank English Bulldog Stanwood, WA

Please meet Frank! Nope, he's not a Boxer, but he's an awesome, 2-year-old English Bulldog! Frank is neutered, is small in height and weighs 53 pounds. This hunky boy is being fostered in Marysville, WA.

Frank found himself in a Washington animal shelter after being surrendered by his owner. Prior to that, he had been tossed in and out of several homes. Thankfully, he only had to stay in the shelter for a few days then MLBR was able to pick him up and welcome him into the rescue. Frank was a great passenger during transport to his foster mom and has continued to do well in vehicles whenever road trips are needed. He simply lays down in the back seat and falls asleep.

Upon arrival at his foster home, Frank was still intact and did very well when integrating into his foster-pack which consists of two male Boxers aged 8 and 1, and one 3-year-old female Sheepadoodle. Dealing with three dogs all at once can be a bit much, but he melded right into the pack without a hitch!

When he first came in, Frank had a bad habit of mounting, but with a lot of verbal correction and redirection, he is 99% better. Frank has learned to leave the older dog alone because he's just not into playing. Now, the female dog in the house is a Diva and when Frank gets too close, she will put him in check and he takes the queue very well. The younger Boxer though, is fair game! They are best buddies and play a lot; pretty much until this nugget has no more energy.

Frank has proven to do quite well when meeting new people; loving all of the attention that he gets. He even recently met a 15-month-old child and did well. Although, he can be a bit pushy, so younger kids in his forever home may not be ideal. His foster family though, continues to work with him and will keep introducing him to people of all ages so he can learn what is expected of him. But we can honestly say that Frank has come a long way since he first joined the MLBR family.

Frank eats in the kitchen with the other dogs, but each is in a different area. He is always the last one to be fed as his foster mom is teaching him how to wait his turn. He has done very well at going to his spot and then waiting patiently. But with that said, he is always the first one to finish eating, so you have to keep an eye on him, as he will try to go to the other bowls to eat the other dogs' food. With a firm verbal correction, he's starting to understand that this is undesirable behavior.

As you can tell, Frank is very food motivated and he loves treats. His foster mom is working on some obedience skills, such as sitting and waiting, then having him take the treat gently out of her hand. Oh, and if there is a counter low enough, Frank will try to surf! So, his forever family will need to keep things up higher so he can't get to anything he's not allowed to have.

Although we were told that Frank was potty trained, we quickly learned that he in fact was not. His foster family has been working on this with him and the dogs are helping too by showing him what's expected. At this point, when someone is home, and he's not in his crate, we'd say Frank is 90% potty trained. At night though, he wears a belly band while sleeping in his crate. He has made a lot of progress, but still has occasional accidents. He just needs consistency and routine and we feel he'll get the hang of it. He does well in his crate otherwise though and sleeps through the night unless he needs to go out to potty. So, overall, the potty training is still a work in progress and at this time, he isn't left out loose in the home by himself or at night. Not yet anyways, but he'll get there!

Frank loves toys and very much enjoys playing with them. He is a chewer though and seems to love other things as well, such as shoes! Therefore, he needs to be watched closely.

Frank is okay on leash but does pull a bit, so it's something he'll need to work on more with his forever family. It's clear that he's a little nugget that just wasn't trained properly, so lacking in some skills is not his fault. He's already proven to be a smart boy, and if treats are involved, we are confident he'll learn all the things!

Frank loves everybody he meets! He loves to snuggle and be in your lap. He even does well at the vet! On a recent visit for his neuter surgery, Frank showed no concerns at all about being in a new environment or being handed to a new person.

Frank is just the most loving dog, and he has a big heart. He would be the perfect dog for just about any household as long as there aren't any very young children. He'll need a strong leader that will continue with the training that his foster family has started. He is smart but needs a pack leader to show him the way.
