Meet FLOWER-See New Video! Seeks Mal-Experienced Home to Heal Broken Heart-Loves Kids!
UPDATE: FLOWER (formerly known as Sigourney in rescue) is being returned to us through no fault of her own. She is not going to do well in a kennel setting, and we hope to find a new home for her ASAP. A DNA panel was done on her, and confirmed that she is 50/49 Alaskan Malamute/Siberian Husky. Her size and temperament are definitely "all Malamute" - she is protective of her people and her boundaries, and is also known to sometimes exhibit the stubbornnes we often see in Mals (especially the females). For this reason, we are looking for a home experiened with this loving but sometimes challenging breed. Flower is missing her family and her kids and her life as house dog. She isa VERY sweet girl and is wonderful with her own kids as well as many other children who have visited the home. She is now about 5 years old and she has grown into a big girl weighing 104 lbs. Flower does want to be the "one and only" canine member of your family (and NO small animals!), but she has more than enough love in her heart to make up for not needing a pack to back her up! Flower came back in rescue as of November 9th and we are hoping a wonderful adopter out there will want to grab her and make her a part of the family for the holidays!

QUOTES FROM HER ADOPTIVE FAMILY:
Flower has become a sweet and lazy indoor gal. She mostly naps. She is allowed to wander in and out during the day.
She loves children, and gives them space - she knows not to jumo on them.
Our children are 2,6 and 8. When we got Flower our children were 3 and 1.5. She actually alerted me that I was pregnant with our youngest. She is very attuned with children and is a very good nanny dog. I feel safe leaving her in the yard with all 3 of them while I put away the dishes or tend to dinner, or other chores. She is an ANGEL with babies!
She can read people which is helpful. She likes caretakers and people with disabilities. She does not like aggressive people. She will bark at cars or strangers outside the gate most of the time, but will cool off if their demenor is calm. She does not like the mailman or people on bikes for some reason!
She likes balls and logic treat games, but mostly likes resting on the couch or in front of the door. Occasionally I will run or hike with her on private property where I know there will be no bikes or other dogs
She is aggressive with other female dogs (typical female Mal) and somewhat less aggressive with males. She will chase anything smaller than her. She is best as an only dog and this big girl is more than enough to love!
She lives indoors, but can spend as much times as she likes outside. She mostly sleeps in her kennel with the door open, but will hop from our bed to the couch and back again
She is housebroken and knows "Kennel" and "Sit". When we are home she can hang out wherever she wants (unless I have food out). She's been known to counter surf on occasion. :) She can be wherever she wants when we are away.
She is not at all destructive. Once in while she will chew a kid toy, but never a beloved one (somehow she knows which stuffie is the best one). She has pulled apart a pillow or two and anything soft we have ever put in her kennel, so we gave up buying her soft things for her kennel a while back.
We have a 4’ iron privacy fence. She could easily jump over it, but NEVER has.
Though she needs work on the leash, she's GREAT in the car and in her kennel.
We do muzzle her at the vet and - again - NO BIKES.
She is NOT food aggressive. You or a child can stick your hand in her bowl while she eats and she would be completely fine. She is on Blue Buffalo Life Procetion Plan for Lard Breed Adult Dogs. Unlike the usual Mal, she also is not a food maniac. We keep her bowl full and she just grazes and doesnt binge.
PHOTOS ARE CURRENT, Her video was taken when she came in about 3 years ago. The adoptive family is the source of the info saying that she needs to be an only dog. Contact us for further info.

In many (most) cases, the video is the last photo displayed as you page through. Just click on that photo and it will play. Please make sure you CHECK ON THE PETFINDER VIDEO ICON, above, to see a video of this wonderful dog! Our videos will include, at a minimum, whatever info we had on the dog upon (or shortly after) his/her arrival into our program. There will sometimes be video updates as well. And in every case, our Adoptions Coordinator can be emailed at ADOPTASLEDDOG@AOL.COM to answer questions and provide the most current information we have on the dog.

WHAT TO DO IF YOU WANT TO ADOPT THIS DOG: Email us at ADOPTASLEDDOG@AOL.COM to request an application and get started. WE DO NOT HAVE AN ONLINE APPLICATION - you will have to request one via email. Email us at KATYLIED2@AOL.COM if you are interested in donating or for information on fostering.

NOTICE: In the vast majority of cases, the dogs in our program and rescued from shelters, and Northern Lights has no means by which to collect or verify a dog's history. We work in concert with our veterinarians, and breed and age estimates are based on a combination of professional input and our collective experience.
