Meet Ferdinand (Fern)

PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE BIO ON THIS DOG BEFORE REQUESTING AN APPLICATION. MANY OF OUR DOGS HAVE STRICT REQUIREMENTS FOR THEIR ADOPTION.

1. No small children
2. Other dogs in the home should be about his size.

8-year-old male Chihuahua, about 5 pounds. *special needs* Fern was found on the street in the rain, hopping down the sidewalk. He has a wonky front left leg that is congenital deformity (missing joint) that he has lived with his whole life. He does not use the leg to walk so he does not damage it, but he does use it to balance occasionally. As an older guy, the decision to amputate was considered but decided not critical, as he is used to dealing with it. Fern is a very sweet guy who is easy to have around. He is a friendly guy and will say Hi to everyone and asked to be picked up. Does great with other dogs, but best with dogs his size to prevent injury. He LOVES to eat and is not picky! He can get around just fine, but long walks are not his jam. He's more than willing to go, if he can be carried or strollered like the little King he is! He needs help getting on and off the couch. He will sleep in his crate, but I am sure your bed is much preferred. Fern doesn't need a yard, but a house is a good idea since his singing can be loud! But it only happens when he wants something, like to go potty. He does not bark much, but his singing is quite lovely...maybe. He would do best in a home without small kids due to his tiny size and only dogs close to his size. We would love it if you had tiny dog experience. To request an adoption application, email smidgetrescue@hotmail.com

Adoption contract and fee applies. All adoptable dogs can be met at adoption events hosted every weekend. For a list of scheduled events go to: https://www.facebook.com/SmidgetRescue/events . Smidget Rescue is not a shelter, and dogs cannot be seen at the Rescue location. All dogs are fostered throughout the Puget Sound area and are brought to the events where they can be met by prospective adopters. Additional pictures of adoptable dogs can be seen at: https://www.facebook.com/SmidgetRescue/photos_stream?tab=photos_albums. All adoptable dogs are spayed or neutered at 6 months of age or older. Puppies are adopted with a refundable spay/neuter deposit (in addition to the adoption fee) and adopters are required to get their puppy to our vet for their pre-scheduled spay-neuter appointments. APPLICATIONS CAN BE OBTAINED BY EMAIL ONLY. Adoption process includes application, meet & greet, home visit and reference check. Email Jamie at smidgetrescue@hotmail.com or click on the CONTACT link on this page. PLEASE DOUBLE CHECK YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS BEFORE SENDING. 8632781We get a fair number of incorrect emails and Jamie is not able to contact potential adopters. Notice: We do not ship dogs out of state. You must live within a three-hour radius of Seattle, WA, (such as Portland, Vancouver B.C., etc.), so we can arrange for a home visit. If your home seems like a great fit for the dog you would like to adopt, you must then drive to meet the dog at one of our weekend events or at the fosters home.
