Meet Ethel Mertz
Ethel, our legendary Great Pyrenees mix, really is the ultimate Badass. We rescued Ethel from Dallas in 2021, when she was already 8 years old and battling heartworm. Unfortunately, more health issues followed: severe allergies, arthritis, masses in her anal and mammary glands that turned out to be cancerous, and most recently, dental issues and corroded bones in her jaw. Ethel faced surgery with a strength we’ve never seen and today, at 11.5 years old, Ethel’s prognosis is good.
If you’ve ever owned a senior dog, you know that there are medical and financial realities. It might sound like a lot on paper, but ultimately, Ethel is no different. Her adopter will need to keep an eye on her lumps and bumps and take her to the vet quarterly for her allergy shots, rectal exam, and monitoring for potential mammary masses.
But what is different about Ethel? Her Badass spirit. Despite everything she’s been through, Ethel couldn’t be spunkier or more lovable. Her top three priorities, in no particular order, are asking for belly rubs and butt scratches; going for long, leisurely walks; and getting snuggly with her favorite humans. (Even in play groups with other dogs, she’ll spend hours casually strolling in circles while the others run and chase!)
Despite her medical challenges we’ll never give up on Ethel, and we know her perfect forever family won’t either. Don’t miss out on the most epic friendship of your life:
