Meet Emmie Equinox from the EQUINOX litter! This litter includes 5 sweet pups (Evie, Emmie, Ezra, Eddie and Emmo) who were found in an abandoned lot near a shopping center in Puerto Rico. They were living there with a pack of 15 other dogs. They are lab/retriever mixes, who appear to be about 7 1/2 months old and 30 pounds as of 8/13/24.

Her northern foster mom shares "Emmie is the snuggliest, sweetest girl and once she learns she can trust you, you will have the most loyal, quirky, loving, smart dog! She'd do best in a quiet household situation on a quiet street with no young kids - the city and busy streets are too much for this nervous girl. She takes a while to come out of her shell, and needs a bit of a therapy human who can give her the love and space she needs to become her sweet silly self.

We've now had her about a month and it's been slow going winning her trust but we are definitely moving in a positive direction! She is with us on vacation in the catskills this weekend and she is absolutely LOVING being out in nature. She's obsessed with running through the fields behind our cottage and loves the creek - it's the happiest we have seen her and it's so cute watching her frolick around! She's definitely a nature girl and a water dog and would love to go on outdoor adventures with her future family.

She's doing well on the leash (no pulling, etc.) but needs some help getting started (i.e., still needs to be picked up and carried outside) and can get a little frozen sometimes when she gets startled by something - just needs to be picked up and carried two feet when this happens so she can "reset." She prefers a harness over a collar as the pressure on her neck scares her. A long leash has been working well for her so she has room to do her exploring.

She's still great in her crate, sleeps through the night and is happy to be in there during the day as well - just make sure she has something to chew on to keep her busy! (She also loves sleeping in the bed if that's something you're cool with...)

Going on one month with Emmie and we've only had one accident in the house - I'm not sure I would call her fully housebroken since she's still mostly keeping to her "safe spaces" and not wandering around - but she's doing AWESOME. She definitely understands the concept that outside = bathroom.

She's good with other dogs or as the only dog - she's mostly indifferent to other dogs but it would probably be good for her to have another dog around to show her the ropes of indoor living. We don't have other pets, but she was very uninterested in the bunnies and birds we saw on our walks in the catskills, so guessing other animals would be fine.

She's a bit afraid of small children - just because of how loud and excited they can be - so would recommend a home with older kids or just adults.

She's also the perfect size - just about 30 pounds and doesn't seem to be getting too much bigger. And she's SO gorgeous as you can see!!

Overall a hidden gem of a dog - we would totally keep her if we could!"

All dogs are up to date on vaccinations and spayed/neutered at the time of adoption. All dogs require professional training to become the best family member they can be.
