Meet Elsie
Elsie girl is looking for a home without any other pets. Unfortunately, other pets being in the home stress her out more than it comforts her. Although she does not like other pets being in the home with her, she does great on walks if another dog passes her and does not bother to react or let them ruin her fun. Elsie is also looking for a home with adults only. When she arrived to our care, she had not been properly examined by a veterinarian and was in pain and showed her discomfort through growling and snapping if she didn’t like something we were asking her to do. Currently, we have her on Gabapentin daily (a pain medication) and we have not seen this behaviour since the third week of her stay with us. Still, it is something we want to make sure her new family is aware of so that her medication can be adjusted if ever necessary.
Currently, Elsie is working on her leash manners with her foster mom. When she came to us, she had no manners on the leash and proved to be quite strong and determined to go her way on walks. She has been doing much better now that she has built a relationship with her foster mom and understands that pulling doesn’t get them very far! Elsie loves being out on a long lead and enjoys being able to sniff and explore. She is not a pup that can be trusted off-leash because when she is outdoors, her ears are more faithful to the earth than her foster mom
Elsie’s foster mom wanted to fill you in on a bit more about her:
Elsie not only looks like a husky, but when you talk about your intelligent, independent and stubborn husky, you’re talking about Elsie. It took her a bit to warm up to the idea that she had a foster mom who wanted to show her a life she deserved but ever since she realized just how good she could have it, our relationship has grown each and every day.
I wouldn’t call her a snuggly girl, but once she trusts you, she will happily ask for some good head scratches and belly rubs. She’s the perfect reading buddy and only needs one hand on her for pets at all times (kidding but it’s cute when she comes to lay beside me while I read and we can have some time together on her terms).
All I want for Elsie is someone who understands that although she needs rules in her life, as all dogs do, she deserves a home that will cater a bit extra to what she wants and what makes her happy. The world doesn’t have to revolve around her (as much as that would be nice) but someone who listens to her and doesn’t push her to be perfect and appreciates her stubbornness and attitude!
She came from a kill shelter where she was days away from being euthanized for space. I can’t wait for her to see that someone created a safe space full of love just for her ?
