Ellie is the absolute sweetest senior hound you will ever meet! She’s a 30# love muffin who always has that adorable expression that says “I love you!” And she does. She gets along well with all the dogs in her foster home. Cats get Ellie excited and she barks at them so she really needs a home with no cats. Ellie loves kids and all people really. When Ellie was brought to the shelter as a stray, she has a very itchy, inflamed skin condition. After testing, it was discovered that this was likely from food allergy. She’s on a fish based diet and daily Apoquel and her skin has improved significantly. And no more itch! Ellie will need her person to be on top of her skin condition. She takes medicated baths once every couple of weeks, and the administration of the apoquel twice daily is paramount. She has some hair loss on her back & legs that will hopefully grow back now, thought it may not. Her age is a bit of a mystery. The more care she’s received, the younger she acts. She’s likely around 12-14 She’s still got some spunk & a healthy girl overall. She had a dental with many extractions, but it doesn’t affect her great appetite. Ellie is quite reliably housetrained. That said, needs to go out every 4 hours or so as when she needs to go, she doesn’t have much warning. Because of this she may poop before she gets out the door as she can’t hold it for long. She sleeps through the night like a dream with only rare issues with having to do her business at night. Ellie rides well in the car and enjoys walks. She takes fairly short walks because she does have some weakness on her right rear side. Sometimes she will stumble and sit down, but she gets right back up. She enjoys leisurely walks, because true to her breed, she likes to stop and smell the roses, or whatever! She really likes the outdoors. Many stairs would be a challenge for her. She can navigate three or four, but many more than that would be a problem for her. Ellie is currently in foster care & has proven to be a perfect foster resident. She does use her voice for a few minutes when her person leaves, but a treat before heading out helps and her howls cease quickly.
