Well, what can we say about lovely, sweet Ellie?

Ellie (formerly Prauni) arrived into rescue on April 28, 2011 from the Humane Society of Cozumel Island in Mexico.  Ellie is a former stray who spent 6 months at the Humane Society before LOYAL rescued her and brought her to Canada.  A car, boat and plane ride later, she is officially a Canadian citizen!

Ellie is possibly one of the sweetest, most gentle dogs we have ever met. What an old, kind soul.  She is such a calm, loving lady.  She does very well in our apartment, as well as with our dog (a 45 lb. terrier mix) and our two cats.  Despite her life on the street, Prauni is still very fond of humans and wants nothing more than to snuggle up next to you on the couch or a warm dog bed.  Ellie sleeps through the night in her dog bed or on our bed with us, and is fully house trained.

Ellie can be a bit stand-offish and nervous of meeting new dogs, but given her former life protecting herself on the street, this isn't at all surprising.  She does not like strange dogs approaching her and will growl or flee, but as soon as she knows they are harmless then she is happy to spend time with them.  She warmed up to our dog after a quiet walk together, and now they play and happily share the couch, toys and treats.

Ellie, amazingly, has no food aggression with people or other dogs.  We are amazed every day by how sweet, well-rounded and well-behaved she is.  She walks well on a leash and sleeps soundly all night on our bed.  She is very low-shedding, good in the car, and easy to bathe.

Ellie would be happy in a quiet home with or without another dog for company.  Someone should be home all or most of the day as she becomes very attached to her humans and would not be happy being home alone for long periods of time; if someone did have to go out for a few hours per day, she would appreciate a doggy companion to spend her time with.   Ellie is not a barker and is not destructive, and we have had no issues with her in our apartment.   No crating please; not only is it not necessary, but Ellie has spent more than enough time in cages already!

Ellie would be fine with older, respectful children (age obviously depends on the child).  She is not much of a 'player' and not hyperactive, so gentle children who can respect her space and her quiet energy would be welcome.  She would not be happy in a high-energy home as she is very mellow, but would love an older child to give her attention and affection, and to teach her what having a family is like.

For more information on Ellie, send her foster mom an e-mail at grace@loyalrescue.com, or check out her blog at http://www.digbyandsassy.blogspot.com.

Ellie is patiently waiting!
