Meet Elizabeth *LONG RESIDENT

Elizabeth is a cute and friendly 9-month-old female Shepherd mix currently being held at the Kern County Animal Services - Bakersfield Shelter. She has been at the shelter since December 26, 2023, and is ready for her new home.

Elizabeth went out on the streets of Bakersfield, a foster for a day program. Here are her notes:

Everyone meet Elizabeth! She’s a 8 month old. She is so sweet, eager to learn and please, and loves some good pets and loves and seems to melt when you love on her face. She learned her leash manners quickly and even was able to have our 9 year old walk her on the leash. She rode in the car great and loved being next to our kiddo. She’s a little nervous at first but with our confidence, she became a part of the family and was happy to be with us. She came across another dog that was barking at her but she didn’t mind much, just seemed curious. She will really make someone the perfect dog! Please help us find her an awesome family and home!

Companion Animal Protection Services (CAPS), a national nonprofit based in Thousand Oaks, CA., is partnering with Kern County Animal Services in Bakersfield to find homes for high risk dogs, The shelter has more than 300 dogs and puppies in two metal warehouses with no outdoor runs. Dogs over five-months-old are at high risk for euthanasia because of lack of space and too many abandoned dogs in the community.

Please contact CAPS if you are interested in adopting, rescuing or fostering, and we will make sure the shelter contacts you. They do not answer phones or respond often to voice messages due to understaffing. Foster homes must be in Kern County. The dogs are in Bakersfield, not Thousand Oaks.
