Meet Edward
If you are at least 21 years old and everyone in your household is on board with adopting a puppy, CALL 651-645-4370 between 7:00 am and 9:30 pm and we will return your call within 24 hours. If you elect to contact us via e-mail it may take several weeks for us to get back to you. Renters must provide proof that you are allowed to have a puppy. Please be prepared to provide a vet reference prior to adoption
Edward is a sturdy and beautiful Swiss White Shepard cross (not a pet finder option so we listed as German Shepherd). We suspect he might be part retriever. We think he is about 5.5 months old and will grow to the upper end of mid-size or lower end of large breed. DNA testing often shows 20 or more breeds in the mix of dogs coming from this area on the Standing Rock Reservation and many are part herding dog and Swiss and German Shepherd. Edward and 2 other pups were surrendered to PUP because the family could not afford to care for them. They arrived in good health and well fed.
They had been living outside so their coats are thick and they are accustomed to pooping and peeing outdoors. Edward knows to take care of business right away when he goes out and is ready to finish off his house breaking. He walks well on a leash and one of the neighbors regularly takes him on long pleasant walks. He has a ball playing with the other pups in the fenced yard. He seems to meet new people well if there is another dog present but if it is just him or there are multiple new people he is very shy. We think he would love a home with another dog who will give him some extra confidence in new situations. He is thriving in his foster home and is a neighborhood favorite. Sometimes in the evening he works his way onto his foster mom's lap. He has bonded to his foster mom and several of his human neighbors. He will do the same thing with his new person. He is ready to go to his forever home.
The early months are when puppy learns the social skills needed to be a skilled dog in dealing with other dogs and a good citizen in the human world. Adopters should be committed to getting puppy into lots of new and different human social situations, hearing vacuums, trucks, and rattling garbage cans, meeting people who are clapping, laughing, with hats, tools, bikes and skate boards. AND puppy needs many opportunities to meet and greet dogs of all shapes, sizes and dispositions. Just sharing a home with another dog is not as much doggie socializing as puppy needs. If good canine social skills are not learned and maintained during these early months, it will be very difficult to ever master them. Puppy play dates, trips to the pet store, puppy socialization classes and later, obedience classes are particularly important. If all this doggie time and involvement seems like a good idea, you are up for a puppy! As always, a tired dog is a good dog.
Edward has been vet checked, neutered, wormed and had routine vaccinations including rabies. The adoption fee is $350 (check or cash). We do place puppies outside the metro area but we do not ship.
