Earl is a gem of an older gentleman. He is the ultimate laid-back and chill-out dog. Want a buddy to throw the ball to? Earl fits the bill. Need a copilot for an upcoming road trip that wont complain about your driving? Here is Earl! What about a couch partner for watching Hallmark movies? Boom, there is Earl!
Do you have a fond memory of a teacher that used to talk about the good ol days, like we won state back in 1971 type of guy? All he ever talked about was back then and retiring to fly fish his days out on a lake somewhere. Well, if that teacher morphed into a dog, he would be Earl. Earls foster says if he was human, he would be a retired athlete that still plays in a local beer league because he still loves the sport. At 10 years young he doesnt miss too many naps but does still enjoy going for walks and doing activities. He is wonderful with humans of all ages, other dogs, and even neutral towards cats!
Earl has been to truck meetups and other busy venues around all sizes of humans, noise, etc. and it does not faze him at all. He loves car rides, does not care at all about loud noises, and did great at the vets office but seemed quite concerned that they were stealing his blood. #TheyAreTryingToCloneME When he is left home alone, he does have minor separation anxiety, but nothing escape artist or destructive like just barks like Hey man I wanted to go too but eventually just lays down and falls asleep. This fella still gets the zoomies from time to time and runs exactly like a baby moose.
As for training, Earl is as close to plug and play as you will find in a rescue dog. His foster has never had to correct him as he is not destructive and is already housebroken. Sometimes he can be a little mal mouthy, but it is usually just a tug on the sweatshirt arm. He has had zero accidents in the home since coming into foster and will whine at the door to let you know he needs to go out. He loves snacks and his tennis balls, which are his high-value rewards. Earl is not a fan of his crate, and shine he is not destructive he has had a free run of the home which has proven to be successful. Since arriving in foster, he has mastered Sit, Lay Down, Paw (both sides), Stay, and Recall commands. He is still working on not barking during his alone time.
Earl is looking for his forever home, and he has flexible options. He would probably enjoy having another dog around for some company. A home without too much chaos, such as someone else who is retired, has quite older kids, and a comfy bed to nap on. So, if you are looking for a sophisticated, well-mannered older gentleman that just wants to hang out put in an application for Earl ASAP!
