Meet DYLAN

BORN TO BE A FAMILY MEMBER

What do we mean by that?

Well, Dylan is a big, 85lb, loving girl, with strong loyalty genetics and a natural affinityfor kids.

We picked Dylan up, in the middle of a highway round about, with another littler friend. They were both exhausted and spent most of the first few days with us, catching up on much needed rest but even after she was feeling much better and rested, Dylan retained her calm mannerisms.

Initially she was not comfortable with being indoors and was wary, not only about coming in but of things like a TV, a ceiling fan or a flushing toilet. She also tried a bit of counter surfing, most likely due to having to take food wherever and whenever she found it, but being a sensitive girl, a few scoldings were all it took to stop that bad habit. She likes to be a good girl.

In her foster home there are a half dozen other dogs of varying, genders, ages and sizes and while she initially greeted them all warily she has grown more confident as she's gotten used to a better way of living and is now much more happy to meet new dogs and enjoys playing with those who invite her to. She's not a dog that needs another dog in the home to be happy, but she will dwell peaceably and companionably, with other canine roomies.

Her introduction to cats, also elicited wariness and skepticism from her but just like the dogs, she came to understand they were part of the deal, and accepted them too.

As previously mentioned, we were also pleased with how much she loves kids. Her foster has grandsons who are 5 and 10 and she introduced herself very gently to both, then inspected them from stem to stern, with great tenderness that belied her size. She stayed close but did not invade and melted under their touch. she also been introduced to children with physical and mental challenges and loved them. She would make an excellent family or with a little professional guidance, a service or support dog.

If you like to go for walks, Dylan is your girl. She is very good on a leash, never using her power or strength to take advantage. We've walked her by chickens and ducks in neighboring yards and had kitties cross our path and not once did she react inappropriately. She walks calmly and confidently on a relaxed leash and if she does start to forge ahead a bit, a gentle reminder, brings her right back to your side. She also loves car rides and jumps right in, ready to go where you go.

There is just so much to love about this girl. She is housebroken and crate trained and after initially not being in favor of staying in her crate, now loves it. It's her "she shed". She loves treats and takes them gently, is not a resource guarder, and has a pretty quiet bark, that belies her size and genetics, when she decides to use it, which is not often. She does have a stubborn streak but her German Shepherd, "gotta please" genetics is what she displays, 95% of the time.

So all in all, this is a really super nice girl and at about 18 mo old, She has many years ahead of her to devote to a big family or a single lady looking to add a little companionship and security to her life or just about any life situation where size is not an issue and there is time for her. She'd be great for RV and camping adventures, trail riding, (great around horses) hiking rugged mountains or easy paths or just chilling with her people in the yard or by the fire, soaking up and giving love, in equal measures.

I mean, c'mon. Look at those eyes. You can see there is a huge heart lurking behind them, just waiting to attach itself to a family or person who will appreciate her worth and not turn her out or abandon her ever again.
