Meet Drifter
Drifter is a loving, devoted little pup! We saw his sweet little raccoon eyes and fell in love and decided to bring him into the rescue. Drifter was a stray dumped in an orchard in rural California with his litter mates. All four pups were brought into our rescue.
- Approximately 6 months old and 20 pounds. We think Drifter is close to full grown and should mature to 25 pounds or less full grown. We cannot guarantee size at maturity though.
- We guessed Chihuahua/Heeler on breed mix but we don't really know. He is petite and has the best ears.
- Good with other dogs and fairly mild mannered for a puppy. Prefers smaller dogs but can get along with bigger dogs if they are not too pushy and in his face. He's a little guy and can get a little overwhelmed by large, forward dogs.
- Shy and a little reserved meeting new people but bonds very quickly and then is your little shadow, wanting pets and follows you everywhere. Motivated by treats and then will warm up pretty quickly.
- Will benefit from a patient adopter willing to help him build confidence with gentle exposure to things like walks, car rides, and public outings. Drifter tends to spook at sudden noises so helping him feel reassured with treats and encouragement will really help him.
- Lower to medium energy level
- Has a playful, goofy side!
- SUPER affectionate. Loves pets, follows his person around like a little shadow, happily curls up by their feet, really enjoys cuddling on the couch!
- Likely fine with cats but we have not officially cat tested him
- Likely ok with gentle kids
- Sweet, soft personality
- Doing excellent with his potty habits and no accidents in foster since his arrival on 12/15/24
- Does well sleeping in his crate at night
- Easy on leash as he's picking up the skill. He likes to stay close to your side on walks. Does balk going through doorways on leash sometimes. Pausing with him in that moment and giving him a second he usually then walks through on his own.
- Athletic! It's so cute to watch him zoom around the yard when he's feeling playful. Could definitely be a good buddy for hikes and outdoor adventures (with confidence-building.)
Drifter is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, heartworm tested negative, and current on flea/tick/heartworm prevention. His adoption fee also includes a free wellness exam at one of our partner veterinary clinics in Oregon City, Milwaukie, Portland or Tualatin.
