Dora came to the shelter when she was found living in some of the most horrific conditions.
Dora has only known to be a momma. She would fight so hard to keep her babies alive and healthy, only to have them taken from her and sold, and then the vicious cycle would repeat again.
Dora has lived through hell, but we want her to know what it’s like to run and play and not have to worry about keeping babies alive and healthy. We want her to know what it feels like to be safe and healthy, and to be loved more than anything in the world.
Dora is a 4yr old Labrador mix, and weighs 56lbs. She is extremely sweet, gentle and has the best smile. Dora loves other dogs and loves kids. She is not a fan of cats, however.
Dora is great in her kennel, quiet as a little mouse in there, she keeps her area clean and walks like a queen on leash. She is a cuddler, a series binge watcher, and crumb cleaner.
Sadly, DORA tested positive for heartworms. But please don’t let this scare you away! We'll begin treatment in her foster home. The cost for the heartworm treatment is completely covered. We can provide you with more info about her heartworm treatment if you are interested in adopting her. Once her treatment plan is completed, Dora will be able to live a normal healthy life with no restrictions!
ADOPTING A PET
We are open for meet and greet adoptions at our shelter on weekends. No appointment is necessary for weekend adoptions. Our weekend hours vary and we also have satellite adoption events every weekend. We are also open Monday through Friday by appointment. Please contact us by phone at 913-321-1445 or by email at petadoptions@kckpd.org to schedule your appointment during weekdays.
If you have a dog or children we ask that you bring them with you to meet our dogs to make sure it is a good match.
