Meet Diesel Joseph
~ THIS IS A COURTESY POST ~ PLZ DO NOT CONTACT MASSPAWS ~ To adopt this special dog, please email his advocate at Ediesplan@gmail.com
Hi, my name is Diesel Joseph. I’m an 9-year old male Rottweiler. My current residence is Manchester Animal Shelter in Manchester, MA. I’ve been here for a couple years I think. (I’ve lost track.) The other kids come and go, come and go, but what about me? I have a first name and middle name, so all I need now is a last name! The other kids come and go, come and go, but what about me?
I appreciate the humans here, especially my gal pal Miss Jen who is my biggest fan, but I need a real home.
For Dog’s sake there's gotta be someone who sees me for who I am – a gifted, loving, smart, comedic, and handsome glob of wonderfulness. But nooooo. All people see is a dog who is too particular with too many needs, but I beg to differ! Sure, I need an adult-only, pet-free household in a quiet location, but beyond that I really don’t need much else except what Aretha Franklin always said, R-E-S-P-E-C-T.
Miss Jen says I’m the best dog with people I trust, but I have little tolerance for things I don’t like (which I bet some of you can relate to). I give her no problem when she cleans my ears or gives me meds. My body language lets her know when I’m not enjoying things, but we work together and don’t have any issues. We respect each other’s boundaries. I just need to find somebody else to build that kind of relationship with.
If I had to describe myself as a vegetable, I’d say I’m a potato, as in the couch variety. I’m the laziest of lazy dogs. I just like to sleep all day, and night. That said, the one thing that gets me super excited is water sports. Swimming, bathing, wading - anything that involves water makes me the happiest boy ever. H2O is where the magic happens!
Let me give you some background. A year ago I was in a bad place. I had Lyme Disease. Twice. It made me feel lousy and achy, especially my back legs. It was during this time I met people but whenever they touched me a certain way, it hurt and reacted by biting some of the people here. And now, sometimes I have “grumpy man” syndrome (it’s a thing) and don’t like being bothered. I let people know, but they don’t listen! But guess what?! If you adopt me, a behaviorist in Haverhill MA will work with us for free! (I have connections.)
I do have many good qualities though. I am housetrained, neutered, non-destructive, and UTD on shots. I love stuffed toys, the bigger the faster my stubby tail moves. Indoors, I walk by the other animals and they walk by me all the time. I don’t pay them any attention. Everything here is super structured so I don’t know how I’d be in the real world if I lived with dogs or cats. So, let’s keep it just me as your only fur-kid.
Notes from my advocates: Diesel needs a special person or couple with large breed experience working with dogs with a behavioral history. Diesel will need multiple visits with his adopter before being taken home. Requirements: Single family house (no apartments please), no kids, no other pets. Diesel has mild residual effects from two bouts of Lyme Disease. He has some muscular discomfort and x-rays show mild arthritis. We believe pain was the cause of his biting incidents.
