Meet Dawson
NOTE: We update our posts daily. If you are reading this, we are still accepting applications. We will NOT respond to "is he available" inquiries.
Dawson was adopted from Baldwin Park Shelter by a well-meaning human who has had a major work/life change requiring rehoming this approximately 1.5 year old big love muffin. Sadly, Dawson, a possible Louisiana Catahoula and Australian Cattle Dog mix, was on his way back to Baldwin Park shelter. Given overcrowding and the downside of being labeled a returned dog, Dawson’s chances of making it out of the shelter again were slim, and so, a wonderful SCARS foster opened their home to help save his life and give him a chance to find his forever family.
Â
Dawson is sweet, mellow mannered, is high energy, loves having jobs (moving all the toys from one spot to another and back again), uses a gentle mouth, potty trained for outside, is food motivated (making him easy to train), smart, clever, and gets along well with other dogs.
Dawson would be a good family dog with older children, or a great dog for an adult household. He enjoys outside time, but he lives inside, and he requires a large yard for exercise beyond walking/hiking. Dawson weighs about 60 lbs and is a tall dog; he definitely has room to put more weight on.
In the short time that Dawson has been out of the shelter, he learned to sit and to go outside to potty. He is not a marker, nor is he an alpha, which makes Dawson adaptable to new dogs with proper introductions. In fact, Dawson likes being part of a pack, which is a Catahoula hound trait.
Â
Dawson needs to find a home sooner rather than later with the right furever family, as he needs to have consistency and stability in his life and is currently in a temporary foster home.
With Dawson’s easy-going, big pawed, and kinda goofy demeanor, he is perfect for a human who is active, loves to play tug and ball, and wants a trusted companion.
