Meet Daisy
Snuggle buddy
Daisy is the sweetest, smartest deaf dog ever! We believe she is 10-12 years old and she is quite spry for being a senior. She is spayed, up-to-date on vaccines, and receives a monthly heartworm, flea and tick preventative.
She enjoys playing with other dogs.
She plays in a rowdy wrestling style a couple times a day for about 5 minutes and then she hangs out or sleeps the rest of the day. She can be vocal and mouthy during play time, and sometimes barks at things outside. She doesn't have to live with another dog, but she always has, and she loves them.
She doesn't mind cats and would also be happy as a solo pet.
Her favorite activity of all time is playing hide-and-seek, aka: burying herself in blankets. Second to that would be wiggling next to you to get tummy rubs. Daisy absolutely loves blankets and will snuggle up and watch whatever you want on tv.
She is an easy-going senior lady who needs a soft spot on the sofa, a blanket big enough to snuggle in, and some cuddles and ear scratches. Daisy is not a high energy dog. She would love a fenced yard and a loving, casual home. She likes to play for short periods of time or go for short walks and then she's content to nap the rest of the day and hang out by you.
Daisy is deaf, but don't be scared of her lack of hearing. She understands hand commands and is a fast learner. And, a bonus is that she won't bark at the doorbell, she won't react to fireworks or loud noises, and you get to snack on wrapped cheese in peace. (Although, she would appreciate the treat, who wouldn't?). A gentle tap on her rump gets her attention if she is facing away and she will excitedly wait for directions.
Daisy loves dogs, but she does not like dog parks.
She will be very stressed and nervous in them and want to leave.
This is possibly due to her being deaf and feeling overwhelmed by so many other dogs that are disengaged from their owners and running wild.
She is crate-trained, however, she would need to be crate-free most of the time. Even though she is quite puppy-ish, her senior body needs bathroom breaks every 3 hours. She can sleep through the night (10pm-7am), but there may be days when potty time is earlier than expected (4am). Very early morning pottie breaks are often curbed by reducing her water intake during the couple hours right before bedtime.
If you are an early-riser and are at home most of the day, Daisy will be a great fit. If you are away from home 8-12 hours each day, Daisy would not be a good fit.
She also likes to go pottie as soon as she gets up in the morning. Daisy loves car rides. She walks well on a leash and has a casual pace.
Her ideal home would be with experienced and patient dog owners. She plays well with older children.
Small children may be too high energy for her.
She wants to sleep, be pulled around in a wagon, lay around and get belly rubs. She does not want to have blocks balanced on her, have children fall all over her, play dress up or fetch.
Also, she does "nibble" when she gets excited and that could be misinterpreted with children younger than 6. The nibbling is when she's excited. In the same way that some dogs will sniff and lick when they first meet someone, Daisy sniffs, licks and nibbles with the same "rhythm". The quick inhale/exhale sniff is equal to each nibble. Her lower jaw has an overbite, so it's most likely those teeth "scrapping" on the skin. She nibbles when you get her leash and are ready to go out, when she's been in the kennel and is happy to come out, and when she wants to initiate play.
It truly looks like she's sniffing or licking and could be missed.
Daisy also sometimes gets hyper and excited when people come home and she will jump up to greet them.
Her foster works with her reminding her to keep four feet on the floor. She needs a loving and stable home where she can live indoors and enjoy all the wonderful snuggly years she has left.
