We have entered a partnership with Franklin County Dog Shelter to help reduce their euthanization rates. Garrett is one of those dogs in need who will be running out of time soon. Please understand we do our best to keep these posts updated. If you have any questions, please reach out.
Out-Of-State adoption available - Coming Back Home Rescue provides transportation for approved adopters.
His final day of life has NOT been scheduled YET but he has been placed on their Urgent List. A date will be scheduled within a week at the earliest or by the end of the month at the latest. Time is still of the essence.

Here is what FCDS had to say about Garrett;

UPDATE 12/16 Garrett was in a foster home from 11/18 through 12/12. They said Garrett was housebroken, crate trained, excited meeting strangers, high energy, knows tricks (sit, down, and place), and loves to snuggle. They said Garrett and the other dog had gotten along so well up until 12/12. The dogs were playing but then it turned into a fight.

Bio – Garrett is available for rescue due to persistent leash biting. He was here originally as a stray on 7/07/24. He was loose wiggly and walked nicely on leash. Volunteers started reporting that Garrett had been leash biting on 8/01. He was adopted on 8/27 and was picked up by one of our Wardens on 9/09. We were able to make contact with the owner and they released Garrett back to us due to Garrett being too hyper and running loose. He was visiting with a potential adopter on 10/10 and we learned he is able to jump the meet and greet room door (around 4 feet). He has continued his leash biting and does it pretty consistently when walking outside. He has done better when a toy is given to him to carry though.

He was tested with a female Pit mix on 7/23. He came in the yard and was pretty pushy but ended up playing well after a few minutes. We tried him in a small playgroup of 3 other dogs on 7/31. Once he entered the yard the other dogs ran up to greet him and Garrett tensed up. He never really loosened up. He is likely not a dog park type dog but may do well with another dog in the home.

CBHR Feedback;
- Garrett is suffering from Kennel Syndrome which is the mental decline of a dog in a particular environment. Based on reports, it will only get worse.
- Garrett may need a dog that is moderate energy and able to de-escalate if to go into a home with other dogs.

IMPORTANT: Please understand that this dog is NOT with Coming Back Home Rescue at this time. If you want to meet the dog FIRST, please head to the Franklin County Dog Shelter in Columbus, OH. Otherwise, we provide Foster to Adopt trials. IF want to meet dogs beforehand, please consider one of our dogs already in our system;

Betsy - Staffy/Female/5YO - Trained/Laid-Back
Mr. Barkston - Boston Terrier Mix/N.Male/3YO - Semi-Trained/High Energy

Our job is to post dogs in need from partnered shelters, vet potential homes, pull dogs from the Franklin County Dog to get them off death row and transport them to their forever homes. This is the process we have been using for over 2 years and do our best to assist potential homes. However, it is not a process for everyone. For a more traditional process, we have a lot of great dogs available for adoption through Coming Back Home Rescue.
