Meet Cotton The Sweet, Smart, and Loyal Girl Looking for Her Forever Home

**ADOPTION FEE IS SPONSORED**

Cotton has been patiently waiting for her forever family for quite some time, and she's hoping that this will finally be her year to find the love she deserves. Despite her unknown past as a stray in Chicago, Cotton has blossomed in her foster home and is showing just how incredible she can be with the right care, attention, and time.

What we love about her:

Great with Cats: Cotton gets along well with the resident cats, and while she may have the occasional playful chase, she's never aggressive. A simple leave it command gets her to back off and she's respectful of their space.

Quick Learner: This smart girl has been impressing her foster family with how quickly she picks up on routines and commands. Her intelligence is truly something special!

Excellent Recall: Cotton has shown amazing responsiveness to commands. Her recall is fantastic, and she's proven that she can be trusted off-leash in a secure area, always returning when called.

Crate Trained: Cotton has no issues with her kennel. In fact, she will often head to her crate on her own when it's time for bed or when she senses you're leaving. She sleeps soundly through the night, content and calm.

Leash Walker: She walks well on a leash, making her an ideal companion for regular walks around the neighborhood or outdoor adventures.

Good with Other Dogs (Once Comfortable): Cotton has bonded well with the resident dog in her foster home, but it did take some time for her to adjust. With patience, she learned to trust him, and now they're best friends!

Potential Emotional Support Dog: Cotton is extremely in tune with her people's emotions. She seems to know when someone needs a little extra comfort and would likely thrive as an emotional support dog.

Loyal and Loving: Cotton is a sensitive and loving soul. While she can be a bit nervous around new people at first, she relaxes quickly once she feels safe. Treats help speed up the process, and she becomes the sweetest, most affectionate companion.

Continued work needed:

Protective Nature: Cotton can be a little protective of her space, especially when meeting new dogs in public. With a slow and patient introduction to a new resident dog, she can build positive relationships, but she'll need time to adjust.

Takes Time to Feel Safe: Cotton is a bit cautious in new situations or with unfamiliar people. With gentle patience and consistency, she will soon feel secure and show her true, loving nature. The more time she has to adjust, the more she will thrive.

Occasional Jumping: While Cotton is making great progress in this area, she can still be a bit jumpy at times. Continued training will help her learn more impulse control, and she's eager to improve.

Garbage Diving: Cotton may rummage through the trash when unsupervised, but with a firm leave it command, she's quick to listen and stop the behavior. A little consistency will keep this in check.

Unknown with Kids: Cotton's experience with children is limited, and she tends to be cautious, especially around fast-moving toddlers. She would likely do best in a household with calm, respectful children who give her space, but she may need time to adjust to younger kids.

Escape Artist: Cotton is quite the escape artist and can jump high, so she needs a secure space when left alone. A smaller, more secure crate has worked well for her, and with the right environment, she's happy and safe.

Cotton's Ideal Home:

Cotton is looking for a patient, understanding family who will provide her with the time and attention she needs to continue building confidence. An active household would suit her well, as she enjoys her walks and outdoor time. She would do best in a home with either no other dogs or one with a dog who is patient and can give her the space to adjust at her own pace. Given her protective nature, she'll need a family that's experienced with working through behavioral challenges and providing her with the structure and security she craves.

If you're looking for a beautiful, intelligent, and loyal companion who will reward your patience with unconditional love, Cotton could be the perfect match for you!
