Meet Coral
Coral came to us in August as a stray and she was one of the worst cases of neglect that we had ever seen over the years.
From the awful bleeding skin issues (mange), double ear infections, with nails so long that it interfered with her walking properly, to the massive amount of fleas on her, a body you could clearly see was used over and over again for breeding, she was so thin that you could see her ribs and hip bones and on top of it testing positive for lyme disease too. The amount of pain and neglect this poor girl endured for who knows how long is unconscionable.
The absolute sadness and defeat in her eyes told the story of her rough life and it brought us to tears thinking of what this poor girl had been through at the hands of a careless and heartless monster.
How could anyone do this to such a beautiful and innocent soul?
We again appreciate and thank everyone who donated towards her care and in the past two months Coral has been in an amazing foster home where she was allowed time to decompress and blossom into such a sweet, lovely and playful girl. She also received her antibiotics and medicated baths much needed to improve her health and skin issues.
Fast forward to these recent pics and the transformation is amazing. She is doing so well and looking so much happier now because she finally knows she is safe and loved. It's truly remarkable to see that once defeated look in her eyes gone and now this girl is so ready to leave that past life behind her and she is looking for a furever family to love.
Coral is a Hound/Lab mix approximately 4 years old. She is doing wonderful in her foster home, she loves her foster mama and she's getting more and more comfortable in the home. We are looking for a less active home for her with no young children. She is housebroken and can be left free roaming in the home, although in the beginning she was known to counter surf and be a garbage picker at times, so you just want to make sure she doesn't have access to anything yummy left on a counter or any garbage, which is really easy to do and not a huge deal. You really can't blame her though because she was so skinny and in the her past life she had to search desperately for food. But now since she has gained much needed weight, her foster mama just makes sure there's nothing to possibly get into before she leaves and she hasn't had any issues since.
She is pretty low energy and although she enjoys her walks and playing with the other dog in the home, she mainly prefers just being a couch potato dog and napping the day away.
She can be very bossy and barked at the cat during our cat test and so she would require slow introductions over time with any cats in a home (we can also cat test her again if anyone interested in her has cats) and if there are other dogs in a home, a meet and greet will need to be arranged. She is currently in foster with another male dog and they get along very well.
Coral is ready to find her furever home and so if you are interested in making this sweet girl a part of your family please email dogadoptions@thesanctuarypa.org to discuss or fill out an application below https://form.jotform.com/SAH_Adoptions/dog-adoption-application
Please be aware that we are all volunteers and we do not pre-approve applications.
We are open every Saturday to the public from 10-2 to meet our dogs.
Dog adoptions will not take place during that 10-2 timeframe and applications will only be taken on our available dogs that day. Also please do not bring your own dogs during our Saturday open hours.
