**Meet Colby!**

**Breed:** Long-Haired Chihuahua

**Age:** 2 years old

**Size:** Small

**Personality:**
Colby is a sweet and loving dog who needs a patient family to help him feel safe and provide structure and routine. Initially skittish, he is afraid upon approach and needs a slow, gentle greeting. Colby is scared of the leash and being picked up, but once he feels safe, he wants all the attention, love, and pets! He will even push his way in front of others for affection and loves to snuggle up next to you.

**Likes:**
- Snuggling and being close to his humans
- Chewing (he needs appropriate chew toys to prevent chewing on things he shouldn't)
- Playing with dogs of his size (once he's familiar with them)
- Sleeping in bed with you and sleeping through the night

**Dislikes:**
- Loud or sudden approaches
- Being left alone for long periods
- Crates (he does not do well in them)
- Cats (he barks at them, so a home without cats is best)

**Training:**
Colby is house-trained if kept on a schedule. He is food-motivated and eager to please, so he has potential to learn commands and behaviors with patient training. He needs help becoming comfortable with a leash.

**Compatibility:**
- **Dogs:** Gets along well with dogs of similar size and would do well with a companion dog.
- **Cats:** Not compatible (barks at cats).
- **Kids:** He would likely do best with older, patient children who understand his need for space and a slow approach.

**Ideal Home:**
Colby needs a secure, fully fenced yard to feel safe and explore. He thrives in a home where his family is present more often than not, as he experiences anxiety when left alone. A calm, quiet environment with a companion dog would help him feel secure.
