Hi! My name is Cody. This is going to be a long story but my foster mom says it is imperative that anybody interested in adding me to their family know my whole story and know that I have been through a lot in my short time being alive. I am loved very much in my foster home and my foster mom says she will make sure I go to the perfect person.

I came into rescue back in November with my momma and brothers. Both of my brothers and my mom found their forever homes very quickly, but I have had to wait as I came in with a broken leg and needed medical care. My foster mom loves me very much but she says it is time for me to find my forever family. I'm not really sure what that means but she promises that I will love it and have lots of fun. She said she will make sure that my new family knows all about me. That they understand that while I may not appear as all the other puppies do, I am just that. A puppy, and I have lots to learn and just need a home that will love me and teach me as I am a quick learner and eager to please.

See I am a little different than other puppies. I only have 3 legs. When I came to my foster home it was what everyone called an emergency placement, my foster mom made room for me and my family even though she already had a houseful of foster puppies. You see my mom and my brothers and I had been seen wandering around on a busy road multiple times in just a few days and when a nice lady found where we were living she was told they couldn't care for us anymore so the nice lady took us to our foster home, my home right now. That very first night when I arrived my foster mom and the nice lady noticed I wasn't walking normal, that I was dragging my back leg, they got me into see a vet ASAP and found out that my leg had been fractured and that it was an old enough injury that it had started to heal incorrectly. The vets feared it would cause me pain and hardship in my future so after opinions from multiple vets it was decided the best outcome for me to live a pain free enjoyable life would be to amputate my leg. I didn't really know what this meant but everyone was so nice and I got to meet so many new people, all of which assured me I would feel so much better later.

SO my surgery was scheduled for December 14th and while I waited for that day to come I spent my days getting lots of love and attention and learning new things from my foster mom. I have mastered potty training, and crate training, I go in with out even being asked as I love getting treats! I am still working on taking treats gently, 95% of the time mom says I do so good but sometimes I am just too excited and can be a little nippy, she says its never hard, and I never mean it, I just really LOVE treats. My foster mom says I am the smartest & sweetest boy ever and that anyone will be lucky to add me as part of their family.

The day finally arrived I was getting my leg amputated, they kept me at the vet overnight after my surgery as they wanted to watch me closely. Then I got to go back my foster home, but my foster mom was told I need to be on restricted activity for 14 days. I could only go on short walks to potty, no rough housing, no running around, no playing with my friends....no fun. The 14 days came and went and it was time for my checkup and to get my stitches out and be cleared to get neutered so that I could start the search for my forever home, at least that's my foster mom kept saying. The checkup didn't go as well as everyone had hoped, my stiches weren't ready to come out. They said to come back in 2 weeks. My foster mom says I am her problem child.. 2 weeks came and went and my stitches still couldn't come out the vet sent us home with antibiotics as they said my stiches looked infected and scheduled me a follow up appointment. Finally on January 22nd I went to the vet and got my stitches removed and was cleared to be neutered. My foster mom and everyone at the vet was so happy I'd finally be able to start the search for my forever home! My neuter was scheduled for the soonest appointment they could get me February 14th! Foster mom says I will be ready to go to my forever home on February 15th.

I have had lots of time to recover from my leg amputation and my foster mom says there is no holding me back now. The vet does says that I may need joint supplements later on as I get older but right now I am just fine. My foster mom says I am active and will need a home that will keep me busy and take me on adventures. I do get tired quicker than other puppies my age, but I do enjoy just sitting and observing my environment. I enjoy snuggling on the couch or even just relaxing in my bed (crate). I enjoy being with people and never stray very far away and I always come back when called, foster mom says I have amazing recall. She also says I am smart, a quick learner and eager to please my people. She says I am an amazing puppy and will be an amazing dog. I prefer walks over running, soft cozy beds to blankets or the couch (as it can be kinda hard for me to get up on). I love to chew on things but only the things my foster mom gives me. I love kongs filled with treats, busy bones, and nylabone toys. I will chase and retrieve tennis balls but it tires me out quickly and I prefer to just chew on them. I am very protective of my home and when I hear a strange noise or someone enters the home I alert everyone in the house. My foster mom says that's part of my genetics and that I am doing my job, she will tell me its okay and to settle and I know my job is done. I get around pretty easily but sometimes when I am really excited or really need to go outside I have trouble getting traction on the hard floors and sometimes I will slip and fall. My foster mom reminds me I need to go slower and she has even put down rugs in my most traveled paths to I can get around more easily. My foster home has a ramp to the door and is a single story so I have no experience with stairs and when playing outside with the other dogs I prefer to not climb on the hills. I do love to play with the other dogs here. I love to chase them and play tug of war, foster mom is always impressed that I can hold my own in tug of war with the bigger dogs and win 80% of the time. My foster mom says I need a home that will take care of me that has experience with tripods and knows my breed, because while I am active it is not the same as your typical 5 month old German shepherd. Sometimes I need to be reminded to take a break and to not overdue myself, my foster mom watches me walk to make sure I am not overextending myself.

So I guess my perfect family would be one that will provide plenty of mental stimulation, continue to train me, give me lots of love and attention, treat me as a member of the family, understand that in the future I may struggle and may need supplements to help my joints and be willing to accommodate my needs.
