Claire *Dog of the Month American Staffordshire Terrier & Pit Bull Terrier Mix Saint Paul, MN
- Young
- Female
- Medium
About
- Coat length
- Short
- House-trained
- Yes
- Health
- Vaccinations up to date, spayed / neutered, special needs. Claire has tested positive for heartworm and has begun the treatment. This treatment is covered entirely by Minnesota Pit Bull Rescue and Claire won’t be at any adoption events until she has completed her treatment. She would be open to individual meetings one-on-one if a potential adopter wants to wait to adopt (the treatment is usually a couple months long) or is interested in a foster-to-adopt arrangement until her heart worm treatment is complete. Heartworm is not common in Minnesota as it is more prevalent in dogs that come from our southern states. Fortunately, once treatment is done, Claire will feel much better and can live a normal, happy life. Here's a great write up about adopting a dog with heartworm- https://www.ochsms.org/adopting-a-dog-with-heartworm-disease/.
- Good in a home with
- Other dogs, children.
- Adoption fee
- $250.00

Name: Claire
Age: Approx. 4 Years Old
Gender: Female
Breed: Staffordshire Terrier most likely
Weight: 55 pounds (she is one solid muscle-y short little tank)
Dog friendly: Yes
Cat friendly: Not sure
Kid friendly: Should be with proper intros, she can be a bit shy at first so respectful boundaries are always beneficial
House Trained: Yes, with supervision and frequent enough outings. She isn’t great about signaling she needs to go out though.
Crate Trained: Yes!!! She doesn’t make a peep & sleeps well in it overnight and does well during a full workday.
Energy level: Mostly low-medium right now
History: Came to MN by way of TX. Claire was brought to the shelter with 2 puppies (Cam & Haley). She is unfortunately heart worm positive, so she is receiving treatment for that.
Adoption Fee: $250
From the Foster: Claire is a sweet little lady that can be a little shy in new environments. When she first arrived to us, she was very scared and unsure of the new surroundings, but she has really come out of her shell with us over the past month. She loves to be close to you and will definitely invade your “personal space” bubble. She gets along well with our adult male and female in the house. Although, due to her heart worm treatment, she needs to remain calm so time together is monitored to make sure there isn’t much play time. Claire handles the exercise restriction pretty well, although you can tell she definitely wants to play sometimes. Overall, she loves to be close and cuddle and/or chew on a bone next to you. She has some basic manners to solidify and some confidence building to do, but hopefully that will come much easier once she is fully healthy again! Claire won’t be at any adoption events until she is done with treatment but would be open to individual meetings one-on-one if a potential adopter wants to wait to adopt or is interested in a foster-to-adopt arrangement until her heart worm treatment is complete.
