Christoff Shepherd & Collie Mix Deming, NM

Christoff is a fully grown, nearly 2 year old mostly black, collie/shepherd-mix male
who came to DAGSHIP Rescue as a 3 month-old in January 2022 with his sister,
Olivia. He weighs approximately 55 lbs.
Both Christoff and his sister were living under a trailer in a semi-wild condition but
were in good health. For few weeks the dogs were so extremely shy that we
could not even get close enough to determine their sex. Over time, Christoff has
developed some trust in humans. While he is most comfortable with his sister,
he also socializes well with most other dogs and is playful with other dogs in the
play yard.
He has never shown any aggression to people and only has shown minor
aggression to defend himself or his sister. He walks on a leash without pulling
and seems to enjoy his walks. Christoff will take treats from your hand most of
the time, but does not sit consistently upon command. He remains very shy
around people, especially those he is unfamiliar with. He allows us to brush him
but it’s questionable whether he tolerates it or enjoys it. He cowers easily and is
somewhat afraid of cars driving by. He startles at loud noises.
Christoff needs to develop confidence and know that humans are not to be
feared. A first priority in training will be to help him become socialized to
humans.
