Meet Chico Chiquito
My name’s Chico Taquito, and I’m a 10-year-old Chihuahua on the lookout for a laid-back, loving family to call my own. Even though I’m getting up there in age, I’ve still got plenty of spunk left in me!
I am located in Bogalusa, Louisiana.
Let’s start with the basics: I’m a senior guy, which means I prefer to take things slow and chill out on my favorite dog beds. I’m *not* a “crazy puppy” anymore, thank you very much. These days, you can find me lounging around the house, hopping from one comfy spot to the next to see which one suits me best. My all-time favorite nap spots are curled up inside the leg of a pair of pants left on the floor or nestled into the sleeve of a comfy bathrobe. If that sounds cute, that's because it is!
Did I mention I’m partially blind? Yeah... I can’t see much, but that doesn’t slow me down too much. I’m always told how much of a *super smart little guy* I am - I’ve got the house memorized like the back of my paw!
Now, let’s talk food. Ahh, yes – my true passion. When it’s meal time, I’m all about the food, and I’ve got my routine down to an art. You’ll find me patiently waiting by the dog gate to the hallway, staring at the spot where my bowl will magically appear. I get a bit hyped for food but I will wait patiently for you to open that gate and BOOM! I'm in my spot ready for my food before you even know it.
Here’s a fun fact: sometimes I get into a little “fight” with my own back foot. Not sure what sets it off, but when I feel my foot’s not quite right (could be an ear infection, who knows), I’ll start snarling and going to town on it. It’s a little weird, but it doesn’t last long, and it’s kind of hilarious – don’t worry, I’m not dangerous. I’m just working through some things!
Life hasn’t always been easy for me. My previous owner was in a tough situation, and due to some unfortunate circumstances, I ended up needing a new home. But, here’s the silver lining: I was rescued, and now I’m thriving in foster care! I've adjusted so well to rescue life and have made lots of dog friends, so I get along just fine with other pups. I've never met a cat but they sound okay. Kids? Maybe not the best match for me, though – I’m not a fan of loud noises or sudden movements, so a quieter home would be ideal. I've seen some things......
Let’s talk health! When I first arrived, I had a big ol’ potbelly. After some vet visits, we discovered I had an enlarged liver, and so now I get a *special little treat* every day in between meal times. I go to the vet regularly, and things are improving! I’m also neutered and heartworm negative which is a big deal here in the south, so I’m ready to roll into my new home!
Potential adopters should be someone who understands the special needs of a senior dog and is ready to pamper me during my golden years. I may need a little extra care, but I promise I’m totally worth it. I’m sweet, quirky, and full of love to give, even if I pee in the house occasionally. But I promise I'm trying, and the rescue people say it's mostly their fault for not taking me outside soon enough.
So if you’re looking for a chill little guy who likes to lounge, isn’t a fan of too much action, and enjoys the occasional foot fight, I could be the perfect companion for you. I’m just waiting for the right person to give me a cozy home to enjoy my twilight years. Could that be YOU?
