Meet Charlie-TX, an 18 month old female mini English cream Goldendoodle, in an IDOG foster home in Austin, TX.

*Please read ALL the information in Charlie’s listing before applying for her to ensure you understand what she needs to be successful in her new home. If you would like to be considered as a potential adopter for Charlie, please complete our adoption application at http://www.idogrescue.com/adoption_application (copy/paste URL in to your browser).

*You must complete our adoption application fully. If you choose not to answer all of the questions on the application, your application will not be considered.

*We will review your application and let you know if you made our short list of applicants for her. We base our adoption decisions on what is in the best interest of our dogs. Please note our adoption policies are in place for the safety and welfare of our dogs - your understanding is appreciated.

*We are all volunteers and have jobs, families, pets of our own to care for - we do the best that we can to get back to you in a timely manner. We believe in taking time to go through our thorough process to try to match the dog with the best fit for that dog. Our adoption process may take 2-4 weeks.

*You must be approved to adopt Charlie before we will schedule a meet and greet with her. We do not transport our dogs. We expect approved adopters to visit her in her foster home within a short period of time of being approved to adopt her.

*Our adoption process involves vet and personal reference checks, phone interviews, a home visit, an adoption contract and an adoption fee.

*AGE: 18 months old (born April 2020)

*WEIGHT: 23 lbs.

*FENCE REQUIREMENT: A physical fence and a yard are required. No shock collars or invisible fences will be considered as we do not feel these would set her up for success.

COAT TYPE: curly lower-shedding Poodle type coat. Her new family should be prepared to brush her coat regularly and to have her groomed every 6-8 weeks (approximate cost per groom is $100). She LOVES to be brushed!

*ENERGY LEVEL: high during the day, at night when we are winding down, she is a couch potato and relaxes. Likes to follow us throughout the house, always curious with what is going on.

*DOGS: yes, great with foster dogs. Wants to play with the puppy in the foster home; they are constantly playing. She is a little mouthy when playing, it is all good natured and not aggressive. She did fine with our 9 year old Boston Terrier who is lazy.

*CATS: curious, very limited contact time with feral outside cat. No signs of aggression.

*KIDS: 16+. She has a history of ingesting items that she shouldn’t (Legos, hair ties, feminine products). She went to the vet twice for induction of vomiting due to this. We’d like to see her go to a home where she doesn’t have access to inedible objects – this is the ONLY reason we are requiring that if the home has children that they be older kids who are able/willing to keep Charlie from having access to objects she shouldn’t eat. She did live with younger children in her prior home and she did great with those kids. This tendency to eat inedible objects may decrease as she gets more attention and exercise.

*CAR: excellent rider, wants to sleep, calm.

*CRATE: Does great. Currently spending about 6 hours a day in the crate a few times a week. Checked in on her with a camera and she was sleeping. She would NOT enjoy being crated for long periods of time.

*HOUSE TRAINED: yes!

*LEASH: Excellent walk, loves walks. Will bark at other dogs if they are barking.

*GROOMER: Her previous owner noted that she was great at the groomer. We have brushed her and she loves it. No issues with touching her feet.

Meet Cutie Charlie-TX!

Charlie is a gorgeous female mini English Goldendoodle who is 18 months old and weighs 23 lbs. She was surrendered to IDOG by her family who was traveling too much; this caused her to have anxiety being crated for very long periods of time. They wanted her to find a home where she would be with her family and instead get attention and exercise.

Charlie’s fosters have this to say about her:

Charlie is playful, affectionate, high energy, curious, and smart. She is slow to warm up when meeting new people especially men. She would love to be with a family that will be able to spend time with her and give her attention. She loves physical activity. She would probably do better in a home with another playful dog as she really enjoys playing and wrestling with our puppy. She is young and needs an owner(s) to work with her overcoming her stranger anxiety and demand barking.

Stranger initial anxiety:
As many of the puppies who were born during COVID, she likely wasn’t socialized very much and does have some stranger anxiety…she is anxious when meeting new people and it takes her time to warm up especially to men. When she first met her foster dad it took her about an hour for her to come around. She was timid, and backed away from him and ignored him but showed no aggression. We think she would do best in a calm home and would not be a great fit in a home with a lot of people coming and going.

Exercise:
She is currently getting two 30 minute walks a day and does very well on leash. She also plays ALOT with our puppy.

Crate:
In her previous home she was crated up to 16 hours a day sometimes. She is crated up to 6 hours a day when her fosters are at work and is fine. Any longer than that and she would not be happy. When she is in the crate she is not destructive, and is calm. We don’t think she would like to be in the crate for long periods of time and would much rather be getting attention and exercise.

Likes:
Walks, squeaky toys, playing with other dogs. In the evening, she is a cuddler, loves belly and head scratches. She has been sleeping in our bed and does fine. Knows when it is time to go to bed and relax.

Transition time:
She is a very sweet, smart girl who is wary of new individuals. She has been through a lot of change in the last week and doing really well with it all. She settled after the first few days. Her new family should be prepared for some transition time and be patient and give her time to decompress and adapt to her new home.

Demand barking/commands:
She has previously worked with a trainer, and would go to trainer's house on the weekends. She knows basic commands (sit, shake). We are working on demand barking; this has been improving. She was barking for what she wanted – it is best to ignore this behavior and only pay attention to her when she is quiet.

Inedible objects:
In her previous home she ate inedible objects twice which required her to go to the vet for induction of vomiting. For this reason only, we feel she wouldn't do well in a home with small children/toys getting left out. We haven't found her chewing on rugs or our shoes that are left out. She does like stuffed toys, but isn't destructive with them. She can reach the counter in her foster home so care should be given that items aren’t left on the counters for her to eat.

The type of home in which we feel Charlie will succeed:
-in a home where she isn’t left alone for long periods of time and instead can get exercise, attention, and be around people
-where she gets to exercise daily
-kids 16+
-house is clean and free of objects she could ingest
-fenced yard
-with another young dog who likes to play!

Charlie is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, crate and house trained. She is heartworm negative and on heartworm/flea and tick preventives.

ADOPTION FEE: $425

OUR ADOPTION FEES RANGE FROM $100 - $750 depending on the dog. It currently costs IDOG an average of over $400 for basic vet, grooming and foster care on each dog; that does not allow for the ones who get sick, need surgery, have special needs or are heartworm positive.
