Meet Charley
We are a volunteer run rescue and donate our time to these dogs. IF you are not serious about moving forward in our adoption process, please do not apply. If someone other than yourself is part of the decision making process, please make sure you have spoken with them and they are on board. We really do not want to waste anyone's time if you are not serious about adopting this dog.
Charley, 5 year old, neutered male, plott hound/pit bull mix, 50 lbs. Charley is in a foster home in Houston, TEXAS and can transport out of state once an adopter is approved!
He's a really happy guy and has been in playgroups of up to 4 dogs, male and female with much success. He responds well to dogs when initially meeting them, very curious and enthusiastic to be friends. Charley is very enthusiastic about playing with the dogs and is always down for a romp. He has a lot of energy when he plays, and he enjoys going to the apartment complex's dog park for larger dogs.
Charley doesn't have a prey drive so he may be okay with cats or small animals but we do not have any history or previous experiences with him meeting cats. Charley has been around kids and would be best for a home with kids over the age of 12yrs. He's energetic and may inadvertently knock over a small toddler but dreams of having a two-legged sibling to chase him around or take him on walks.
Charley lives in an apartment and has been a model guest since arriving - he's not climbed on furniture, broken or chewed anything he shouldn't, and is house and crate trained. His foster works away from home and he is content by himself for 7hrs or more per day, but he does get antsy when his foster leaves his line of sight, pacing and whining until he comes back.
Charley may take a couple weeks to settle into a routine but once he's established the gameplan and where he falls in line, he will exceed expectations. He is very food motivated so training is made that much simpler! He also responds very well to gentle correction and excels with stability & routine. Short "time outs" and the leash are high value corrections for him - he doesn't need a strong hand to make an impression.
Charley goes on frequent walks to get out his energy and is a gentleman on the leash but will get excited and pull towards other dogs that pass by. He is moderate to high energy (a 5-6 out of 10) and thrives with extra play time once or so a day. He would love to join in on adventures, whether that be running, walking, hikes or car rides - he is ready!
Through it all, Charley does relax in the house and loves to cuddle, he's very sweet and affectionate. He is an overall happy dog who seeks attention and love - he's good natured and goofy, even a bit clumsy! He loves to ride in the car and just wants to be with his people. Charley *loves* nylabones, pig ears/bully sticks or cheese.
***Listed BREED and AGE - We are taking our best guess & recommendations from our veterinarian on age, breed and size when fully grown. We rarely know a dog's exact age nor are we able to tell the true or full breed mix of dogs as our information is limited most of the time. ***
