***ADOPTION SPECIAL: FOR THE MONTH OF OCTOBER SELECT LOCAL DOGS HAVE A REDUCED ADOPTION FEE. THIS WONDERFUL DOG HAS BEEN IN NORTHERN FOSTER TOO LONG AND DESERVING OF HIS OWN FOREVER FAMILY. HIS ADOPTION FEE IS NOW $250 THROUGH THE END OF OCTOBER***
Meet Buster, a 72-pound Labrador hunk of a guy who is 7-8 years old! This boy has been on our website for 3 months now and we don't know why there hasn't been a flood of applications for this wonderful, handsome, loving boy!!
Buster is a funny and affectionate senior who loves to be around his humans. He loves attention and can’t get enough of it. He is such a great dog and deserves nothing but the best for his retirement years. This sweet boy has not had the best luck, and is ready for a second chance at finding a family who will stick with him no matter life's ups and downs.
He was with a New England family and had to be surrendered due to a change of living circumstance. Shortly after he came to us, it was determined that he was achy in his legs and didn't like people touching his mouth. He has since had the proper vet care and although it was determined he does have arthritis, he is doing so much better on Carprofen pills and Adequan injections. This adjustment has made all the difference in the world for him. Now Buster is playful, silly, and loving life. He enjoys playing with his toys and having fun. He will need to continue with the medicine for the rest of his life to make sure he remains happy and comfortable. Anything you spend on pain meds, he will repay in unconditional love and affection.
This guy is handsome and sweet and has the softest fur. He understands a gentle “NO”, is fully housebroken, walks nicely on a leash, loves car rides, LOVES water and all his toys. He enjoys laying belly up on the couch snoozing, or lounging in the sun.
Buster isn't a fan of cats, but he is living with one now and has learned to leave kitty alone. Like the generic old man in movies and tv, Buster sometimes is not a fan of new people coming into his home, and lets them know with a "get off my lawn!" response. His foster is working on the best way to do introductions to new people in the home, which is the only place he seems to sometimes get grumpy. Being introduced to guests outside before they come in may be a quick fix to this quirk of Buster's.
Buster spent a week at a temporary foster home while his foster was on vacation and he was the perfect houseguest. His temporary foster stated that he played with their elderly resident dog, walked well on a leash and loved everyone in the home. Buster also recently attended his first adoption event with close to 20 other dogs in attendance and he was great with all the people and dogs!
Buster is a wonderful guy who is easy to fall in love with. If you are looking to provide a loving home to a senior guy who still likes to have fun, you can't do any better than Buster.

PLEASE READ: If a dog is listed, then s/he is currently available for adoption. Their information is correct to the best of our abilities and the information we have been given as of the day of posting. Please note, GDRNE does not guarantee the breed of any dog or puppy unless stated that we have run DNA. All breeds listed are educated estimates. Our dogs are rescued from various situations. It is most likely that both their parents were strays and even if not, mixes of some sort and that their grandparents were mixes as well. The dog may have some genetic material of an American Staffordshire Terrier (pit bull). The dogs are usually mixes of many breeds, making them a breed all their own - a True and adorable American MUTT.
If you are interested in this dog, you must submit an application. Great Dog is not a shelter so there is no building you can visit. Our dogs live in private foster homes until adopted.
