Meet Bug

There are bed-bugs and lightening-bugs, reading-bugs and nature-bugs, bugs that crawl and bugs that fly . . . and sometimes splatter on your windshield (God-bless their wee-souls). But, the best kind of bugs are love-bugs. And, our Bugs is of the loving-kind. Bugs is a 70lb 7 ½ year-old male Pit-Bull mix. He is neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped. He is housetrained and crate-trained. Bugs is a highly intelligent high-energy dog who needs a strong-leader with an active lifestyle. Bugs is joyful, playful, puppy-like and affectionate, well-behaved and eager to please, but at times, defiant. He knows many basic commands, including: Sit, Shake, Crate, Lie-Down, Stay, Okay, Come and he is REALLY great at Wait! Bugs is nearly proficient in leash-walking with the aid of a training collar. Bugs has developed a nice calm state of mind through behavioral training. Bugs is very playful on his own. And, while not one to play with other dogs, Bugs can have respectful interactions and be an excellent companion with another dog after proper introductions. Bugs is being fostered with a female dog and they get along very well with a little management. At night they sleep side by side on his and hers dog beds in the room where their humans sleep. Bugs guards toys and chews, so he only gets them when he is by himself. He would do well with or without a canine companion. Bugsdoes not currently live with cats, but did so previously with no reported issues. Likewise, Bugs does not live with children, but he has demonstrated positive interactions with older (13-18 years) dog-savvy children. When out and about, Bugs can get excited when he sees other animals or children playing, but he is easily redirected. He enjoys car rides, but doesn’t like strangers approaching the car when he’s in it. Bugs is excellent in the crate, where he stays when his people leave for work. He knows his foster family’s routine so well that he will go to the crate when it's time, before being told. Otherwise, when told, “go to your crate,” he runs right in. And then, he is told to “lie-down,” and he does. Then, when his people come home and it's time for Bugs to come out, they ask him to “sit” and “wait,” until they say “okay,” . . . even if it's been a long time. They believe, if he was the only dog he would be fine with free-roam when left alone. Bugs rarely barks, but is vocal when he needs to go to the bathroom, or if he’s waiting on you and you are taking too long, in his opinion. Sometimes Bugs gets over-excited or paces. When this happens, he needs redirection. Bugs has a gated room in the home where his crate is. This is where he eats. If he is pacing, his people say, “Bugs, go to your room,” and they close the gate. After he is calm, he is invited back out. Bugs sucks on his bed to self-soothe and wind down before falling sleep. He loves to play with toys and can easily entertain himself. He has a large knotted rope and a sturdy rubber toy that he throws in the air and catches! Bugs is easily amused. When the temperature dips and the snow piles up,Bugs dons a warm coat. Then he’s ready to search for treasures buried in the snow by submerging his face up to his ears . . . all the while wagging his tail! Bugs has a crooked front leg but it doesn’t bother him at all. He is champ on the treadmill and would make a great hiking or running partner. He loves being outside and requires daily exercise. Bugs has learned some coping mechanisms like self-soothing and entertaining himself with toys, but Bugs is also an affectionate dog who thrives on connection with his people. Bugs loves cuddling and being petted. He makes great eye-contact and really lets you know that he loves you and wants to please you. He would be quite happy to sleep on your bed with you, if agree. Bugs needs a strong leader. He is very well behaved if he is provided good boundaries. Bugs . . . he’s as cute as a bug in a rug. And, Bugs can be your love-bug.
