Meet Buckles! Sweet Buckles, who was one of 48 lucky dogs that came to us in Oregon a while back from a shelter we work with in Norman, Oklahoma thanks to our partner non-profit Dog is My Copilot for their air transport assistance with getting these dogs from severely overcrowded shelters in various parts of the country to other shelters, adoption centers and rescues like us who are willing to help. Foster update:

Buckles is an energetic and affectionate girl who's ready to share all the love she has with the perfect family! She's a 4-year-old Terrier/Staffy mix with a heart of gold and a zest for life. Buckles does well with all strangers, kids, and other dogs, and she's eager to please, especially when food is involved (she's quite the foodie and loves her treats!). Buckles is house-trained and crate-trained, making her a great fit for a family looking for a well-behaved companion.

Friendly & Social: She is wonderful with kids and gets along with other dogs. While she hasn't been tested with cats, her friendly nature and sociable demeanor suggest she could likely adjust well to most homes.

Playful and Energetic: Buckles is an active girl who loves to climb and play, so she'll need a family that can provide plenty of exercise and mental stimulation. She's got a lot of energy to burn, and if she doesn't get enough playtime, she can become a little rebellious. But with regular exercise and attention, she thrives and is eager to follow the rules!

Buckles knows some commands (like "sit" and "wait") and is very food-motivated, making her a quick learner. She's always eager to please her humans and enjoys showing off what she's learned.

Loves to Be With You: Buckles is an excellent family dog who just wants to be with her people. She is sweet and loving, and once she gets to know you and settle into her routine, she's ready to be your loyal companion for life.

While she can be a bit nervous and pull on walks, she settles down quickly and can focus on you with the right engagement.

steps to adopting

(OUR ADOPTABLE DOGS ARE IN SEPARATE TEMPORARY FOSTER HOMES BETWEEN BEND/CENTRAL OREGON AND THE GREATER PORTLAND AREA. THEREFORE, MEET AND GREETS ARE NOT DONE AT OUR FACILITY. TO LEARN MORE, PLEASE SUBMIT YOUR ADOPTION APPLICATION ONLINE AND OUR ADOPTION PROGRAM MANAGER WILL REACH OUT TO YOU WITH FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO MEET YOUR NEW PUP!)

The first step to adopting a dog from SDH is to complete the adoption application. First click on the "OUR DOGS tab up above, and then click on the orange colored "Fill out an Adoption Application here" button to start the process). Once submitted, please expect 3-5 business days or sooner for processing and to hear back from us. Once you are pre-approved, your adoption application will remain on file with us for 1 year and it can go towards multiple adoptions within that 1 year time frame before it expires.

To finalize an adoption you must sign the adoption contract and pay the full adoption fee of $300. The adoption fee helps cover our costs. On average, per dog, it costs SDH between $500-$700 for vetting/medical/sterilization, transport and other rescue related expenses. All dogs are rescued and do not transport to SDH until they are healthy and ready to be adopted. All dogs are examined by a veterinarian before they fly, which includes sterilization whenever possible, given standard vaccines and rabies (if age appropriate). Most dogs are sterilized before they come into our program, however if this is not the case we will spay/neuter them once they arrive at our cost.

Upon their arrival, all dogs are seen for a wellness exam by SDH's medical team. Once the adoption is finalized, any further medical care or treatment will not be covered by SDH, unless discussed prior with our medical team. All known issues are disclosed to the best of our ability prior to finalizing the adoption.
