Meet Bruce

Meet Bruce. 4.5- 5-year-old beautiful GSD. Bruce has been with the Rescue Sanctuary for 3-plus years.

He was a project dog rescued by a good soul, then covid hit, and Bruce's best chance at a good home disappeared.

His human lost his life after a routine surgery came down with COVID during his rehab stay, and he did not make it.

Bruce was surrendered after his elderly owner died. Who purchased him from an irresponsible breeder? I say this with the utmost respect. The breeder is a POS for selling such breeds to extremely elderly people. Bruce was never socialized, exercised, or received much training. As an only dog with 0 efforts toward any development, socialization, or training, his mental health deteriorated, developing severe anxiety and fear reactivity.

Bruce is amazing and does take patience to gain his trust. He does warm up quickly but does so at his own pace and time.

Bruce is every dog of all sizes and age-friendly. He requires a stable balance pack to follow off and learn from. Bruce's anxiety spikes when he is not with another dog. Bruce's ability to accept trust and love new people is possible. We have witnessed him do so plenty of times with 0 concerns once he does. Even with children. But it's a process and safety is of importance why an experienced breed owner is required. /there's no room for fuck ups, nor do I care to entertain anyone who doesn't have a respectful understanding of his needs.

Bruce is amazing, with 0 chance from the moment he was born. The breeder failed him and only cared about the $$$ made. Not a responsible or ethical breeder at all.

Bruce is dismissed as the little lost little brother who always wants to fit in. He goes with the flow. He enjoys learning. It comes easy for him. He loves group play. Bruce loves car rides, fast pace running but even simple walks are great. Bruce loves hiking and trails. Running the treadmill is always fun. Running by the bike is something he too enjoys. Swimming, boat rides, canoeing, we have done it all. We continue to expose him to eliminate doubt and build confidence. He takes guidance and correction with acceptance and grace. In the right hands, he would have been perfect. Bruce is sweet, nurturing, gentle, and curious. Protective be as use it's what his genetics tell him to be. But if he's a person who takes leadership and charge, he follows proudly. Bruce loves everyone he trusts. He is extremely smart, social, and respectful of all animals. A confident, experienced, active, hands-on person who will continue to push Bruce to explore and accept learning best. With positive reinforcement training and disciplined correction, who the:es in a structured environment. Routine and fun are possible if self-discipline and a controlled environment take place. All this means is Bruce needs a GSD-savvy and confident owner.

Bruce is house and crate-trained. His off leash recall is excellent, but continued work and training is a life time commitment. Bruce walks well on a leash but the initial excitement gets the best of him. Nothing that cannot be managed and improved through repetition and continued training. With a bit more dedication and training efforts perfection can achieved. A fenced in yard required. Bruce enjoys simple daily walks as much as any outdoor exploration adventure. His desire is to be with his human.
