Boone is a 1.5-year-old, 65 lb. bundle of loving and cuddly puppy energy! He loves his people, our 7-year-old Golden and our granddog. Boone is crate trained and will sleep all night in his crate. He is house trained and will go to the door when needed. He loves to fetch, go for walks, and rumble with our Golden! Boone has very good recall, knows basic commands such as sit, stay, wait, and down. He responds very well to a firm “no” and “leave it.” Because eye contact is very important in training, we are working on establishing a good “look” command. Boone will need continued reinforcement in all these areas and an obedience class or two is highly recommended for bonding and his success.
Boone would love to have another dog to play with in his new home, but it’s not mandatory. As stated above, he gets along with most dogs, but proper introduction is important when meeting a new friend. Boone needs to go to a home where any children, or children who regularly visit, are at least 15 years old. He doesn’t love the high energy of younger children. Boone is prey driven, so we are looking for a home without cats. We are working on breaking the “prey sniff.”
Boone startles at noises and will bark at something or somebody outside. He also loves things in his mouth and will pick up anything within his reach and carry it around until you take it and replace it with one of his chew toys. Most forms of containment will be considered; however, no electric/invisible fences. That option will not work for Boone. Your containment and exercise plan will be discussed at length.
While Boone does not have any clinical signs, there is the possibility of some hip dysplasia and arthritis in his right hip in the future. There is also no current arthritic changes. There is a good potential that he will go a long time with little to no clinical signs. We do have an x-ray available that has been read by an orthopedic specialist. Because of this, we recommend a daily joint supplement and a home where he won’t be a jogging partner or going on hikes. Boone needs a quiet home where he can be loved and adored!
Boone is a diamond in the rough and has been a joy to have in our home! He has enjoyed his new life of play, walks, cuddles and just being his goofy puppy self. He may try your patience at times, but when he looks at you with those big black beautiful eyes, your heart will melt. Do not be fooled though, he is still a baby and is learning how to be his best self. If you are ready for puppy-type energy, cuddles and just plain smiles, then Boone would love to meet you. He is going to make someone a fantastic forever companion!
Boone is being fostered in Lake Orion, MI. Any adopter must reside in Michigan, Northern Indiana or Northern Illinois. Boone has a $350 adoption fee. He is neutered, up-to-date on all vaccinations, had a heartworm test, fecal test, has been microchipped and looked over by a vet.
