Bijou is ADOPTED! Lhasa Apso Portland, ME

Bijou is a young yet puppy-like (DOB 6/13/23) Lhasa Apso who weighs 13lbs. Bijou came to us after recently losing her human.

Bijou has a ton of energy and is full of spunk. She is very much a typical Lhasa Apso (fearless, alert, and confident) who can be vocal and an alert barker.

Bijou loves to go for walks (she pulls a little on leash) and run around in a fenced yard, she has been affectionately nicknamed "Turbo". She loves to play chase! She enjoys riding in the car. Bijou is house and crate trained, though she doesn't spend a lot of time in her crate.

She loves any and all dogs and was previously fostered with Rottie and is now fostered with 5 other little dogs. She will bark at cats to initiate play, so she may be too much for most cats. Lhasa Apsos are generally not great with children. Bijou seems to enjoy some kids, but doesn't enjoy being picked up, so she could be okay with respectful kids who understand that dogs have boundaries. She will absolutely steal their snacks if they are at her level though! She likes being close to people and is eager to receive affection (and will ask for it), but she's not what you would consider a lap dog.

Bijou will need regular grooming (every 6 or so weeks) and frequent brushing which she enjoys. Her skin does get a little dry and itchy so she is eating a salmon-based diet and taking additional omega supplements, which is keeping that at bay.

Bijou is an all-around fun and pleasant dog who still has a lot of puppy in her. She bonds quickly to other dogs, so we are looking for adopters who have another dog, or dogs. A fenced yard to help her get her frequent zoomies out would be ideal.



Adoption fees cover age specific vaccinations, martingale and collar, spay/neuter, microchip, heartworm/lyme/ehrlichia test, worming etc.

Adoption fees:
Through 6 months of age $450;
7 months to through 5 years $400;
6 years and under 9 years $325: bonded pairs are $500;
9 years and older $250: bonded pairs are $300

This dog is available unless it is marked as Pending, meaning Pending Adoption. This dog is in foster care locally, ONLY if Maine is listed next to the dogs name; otherwise, the dog is still waiting with our partner rescue for an adoption or foster home in New England.

PLEASE NOTE - We will check your veterinary reference, to ensure that current and prior dogs have a history of being kept up to date on rabies and distemper, have had annual heartworm tests, and are on heartworm preventative at least 6 months of the year. Current pets must by spayed/neutered.
