Meet Bentley
Bentley is looking for a family that will keep him mentally and physically busy every day. He is not a pet dog for a first-time owner, or a casual weekend hiker. He currently lives on a large property and spends most of his day on the go: morning chores, getting the kids to the bus, a run with foster mom, evening chores, helping kids with homework, and everything in between. When not outside working in some capacity, he is inside playing with a toy or dog puzzle. He wants to be on the go with a clear purpose to each task.
The ideal family for Bentley respects his need to be engaged with his people and in activities he finds meaningful. They will provide him with outlets for his physical energy and ways to use his bright mind. He’s a great fit for a home in the country and could adapt to life “in town” if he has enough to do. It’s important to Bentley that he be able to stretch his legs in an unrestrained romp most days of the week, whether this is in a fenced yard, with the help of invisible fencing, or on his family’s acreage.
Respectful of children. Happy as an only dog. Peacefully coexists with his foster canine siblings but does not look to them for direction or companionship. His entire reason for being rests firmly in the grip of his humans. Reliably housetrained. Prefers being contained in a small room/mud room versus a crate (will accept a crate). Walks nicely on leash in a Gentle Leader, and doesn’t miss anything moving within his sight. He is vocal when bored or when he sees other dogs; not a candidate for homes with shared walls.
Bentley’s behavior around his family and home are characteristic of a Great Pyrenees (protective, ever-watchful, unconditionally devoted). In order to readily accept visitors to the home, he will need focused training and socialization. He also displays herding tendencies from his suspected Border Collie roots. Combined with his exceptional intelligence, he is a remarkable dog suited for a very particular type of family.
If you can provide the type of home Bentley is looking for, he will be the most loyal, reliable and loving addition to your family. APPLY to adopt him at hoabcr.org/how-to-adopt
Bentley is being fostered in Annandale, MN.
As a foster-based rescue, we do not have a central facility to visit. Meet and greets with specific dogs are arranged once your adoption application (not an inquiry through Petfinder) has been received, processed, and approved. We are located in Minnesota and adopt to an area 400 miles from Minneapolis/St. Paul.
His adoption fee is $450 + MN sales tax. He is neutered, microchipped, heartworm negative and up to date on age-appropriate vaccines. All of our dogs go to their new homes with a collar and harness, leash, starter food, blanket, favorite toys & treats. They are current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention.
