Meet Benny

If interested, please contact the foster home. Petfinder Profiles doesn’t always work.

Benny is a special boy, not just because he’s a tripod but because he is on a mission to find his person. Could you be Benny’s person? Read on to find out!

Benny is a medium energy cattle dog, happy to play a few sessions of fetch per day between long chewing sessions and couch cuddles. Estimated to be a year old, Benny is still quite a puppy and will require his person to be committed to his continued training - both potty and obedience. He’s responding very well to a formal potty and crate schedule. He crates well and sleeps through the night. He has learned quite a few commands already and walks well on a leash.

Don’t let having one back leg fool you - Benny can run and he loves to do it whether it be with a dog friend or playing fetch with his person. He doesn’t like to go too far, though. His favorite things to do outside are zoomies, fetch and rolling around in the grass. He has decent recall, probably due to his velcro-tendencies, and is very motivated to please.

Benny is up to date on vaccines, neutered and current on flea/tick and heartworm preventative. He’s a petite boy at 32 pounds. His person will need to be committed to his care and any additional support that might arise due to his condition, like joint supplements, exercise, keeping him safe, etc.

Benny is a good natured boy at heart, but he can take some time to trust new people. Lots of slow and positive socialization activities will be required for his successful integration into your life. He is good with dogs and dog savvy cats, but would also be very happy to not share you. Benny has not met any children yet in foster care, but since he’s been nervous of loud voices, older children only are suggested.

Understandably, Benny is afraid of moving vehicles (cars and bikes). Even when they are in the distance, he pays attention to where the sound of traffic is coming from. He will ride in the car fine, but does need to be loaded right now. We are working on some voluntary load up and out commands.

Benny is such a sweet and silly guy who has been through too much in his short life, and his foster mom wants to be sure his next home is his last. His ideal home is in a quiet suburban or rural neighborhood with lots of space to sniff and play filled with people who are going to give Benny the chance he deserves at a safe, fun and loving home. Experience with cattle dogs is highly recommended. Commitment to on-demand left side belly scratches a must!
