Beetle Norwegian Elkhound West Falls, NY

Beetle is a two year old Norwegian Elkhound weighing around 45lbs. He has been with his foster mom for about a month now decompressing and trying to learn to trust people. He came from a puppy mill and was one of the most terrified and shut down dogs we have ever received. It has taken the entire month for him to be OK with being pet, and even still, he is fearful about being touched in his neck area. He needs a person with a lot of patience who can read his body language and will give him time and space to adjust. Once he comes out of his shell he is very curious and loves to follow his foster mom around. He enjoys playing with toys and running around outside.

Beetle is crate trained, doing well with potty training when kept on a consistent routine, and will walk on a leash when he is with someone he trusts though he is still very shut down when taken off property. He does very well with female dogs and loves puppies. We have not cat tested him, but can if the perfect applicant has cats.

Beetle absolutely requires a securely fenced yard, and least one other outgoing female dog in the home to learn from. He would likely be fine with male dogs in the home if they are generally dog neutral and will give him space, however he does not appreciate other male dogs all up in his business. We cannot stress enough that his adopter be someone who is very patient and very kind as we really hope the next time he hast to adjust to new people and a new place, it is the last.
