Meet Bean

Bean is a wonderful, female, tan & white terrier mix. She is leggy and athletic, happy, playful and smart. We call her Bean, Jelly Bean, Jumping Bean, Vanilla Bean, Beanster, Beanie....the list goes on.  She knows her name and always responds to it.  A few things about Bean:Knows "sit"Knows to look you in the eye to get a treat. Even with other distractions, she wants those treats! Will come when calledGreat with dogs, kids; she hasn't been around small kids but she would be great; just know she's a puppy and still bites/chews and jumps up on pplDoesn't love the crate but has adjusted to it; she gets fed in it so she doesn't mind so much. When I would leave her in it, I gave her her meal or stuffed a bone with some peanut butter to distract her.She can last in a crate for at least 4-5 hours without soiling it; but some days she was in it for 8-9 hours while I was at work; that was just too long for a puppy to stay dryOther than that, she knows to go outside for her business but she is a puppy and doesn't know how to tell you she needs to go outIf she starts sniffing around the room, take her out b/c she needs to relieve herself; even if she just did it 5 minutes earlierIn the morning, take her out first thing; she will pee and poop within 2 minutes (great for cold days in VT)Because she sometimes spent all day in the crate, I didn't want to put her back in at night. So she slept with us in our bed. She's a perfect sleeper. She snuggles and stays all night.  Without exercise she may be a little wired at night so best to wear her out!She may be okay with cats. Right now she's a puppy and she literally would tackle my cat and bite him; for some reason my cat put up with it and didn't hide, although occasionally he'd had enough.  She's going to be that way for a while but perhaps when she grows up a bit, she will settle into life with a cat. She was never trying to hurt him; just playShe did great with my pit-mix; she's not afraid to go toe-to-toe with him. But she may be annoying to a dog that doesn't want to playShe can get startled easily; please use a slip lead on her when going outside, on walks or any public places. Car sounds startle her, any sudden noise.  She will try to bolt, so a slip lead is critical (Note: the collar on her right now is a cheap one and likely will stretch out but I know adopters like to get their own things)Great on leash; loves to smell all the grass; we took short walks and she was great!Loved her toys and will fetch them and return.  A great way to wear her out.She loves to give hugs. Pick her up and she will nuzzle on your neckGreat on car rides; she is quiet and calm.
