Meet Bandit
Hi, my name is Bandit! I'm a RED pawprint, which means I need an experienced home that meets some specific criteria. Here is what would work best for me in my new home:
-Personality: Energetic, playful, can be a bit sensitive/nervous at first, curious, intelligent, adventure buddy
-Can Live with Kids: Could potentially live with dog-savvy kids ages 12+ (up to counselor's discretion)
-Can Live with Cats: Unknown history - will need proper introductions. May have a high prey drive due to breed.
-Can Live with Dogs: Yes, does well in play group here at the shelter and would likely enjoy having a canine companion. Best suited for other high energy/playful dogs.
-Can do Apartment Living: No
-Potty Trained: Yes
-Bite History: No
-Positive Reward Based Obedience Classes Required: May be required to attend one private lesson depending on adopter experience. More training is strongly encouraged!
-Energy Level: HIGH
-Needs Medical Procedure Before Going Home: Yes, a neuter
-Additional Information:
Bandit is an aussie/husky/shepherd mix who was surrendered to the shelter because his owners "couldn't keep up" with him. They had three other dogs and multiple children and were just not able to give Bandit the attention he needs. Bandit is a high energy boy who's going to need lots of exercise and mental stimulation to keep him happy. His perfect match is an acitve person who will take him on lots of adventures (ie. long runs, hikes, bike rides, etc.). Prior experience with herding breeds is a big plus! As a 10 month old dog, Bandit is still very much a puppy and is in need of a stable routine, consistent positive reinforcement training, and lots of encouragement! He can be a bit nervous with new people and in new situations, but once he's had some time to adjust he is a friendly and happy boy. If you'd like to meet Bandit, the first step is filling out an adoption application. Applications will be reviewed to ensure it's a good match before scheduling an introduction.
If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application on our website (www.whatcomhumane.org/adopt) or in person at our facility. We recommend calling into the shelter after your application has been submitted so our front desk can give you next steps on our adoption process.
