Meet Available for Adoption - Drake (located in USA)

Socialization: Drake is a sweet, well-socialized, friendly pup. He is friendly both with people including men, women, and children and also with other dogs. He is very friendly to household members and visitors. He has adjusted very easily to our home. He barks sometimes at other dogs during our walks as he wants to meet them. He has been playful with our dogs. He is very tuned to cues of other dogs and acts accordingly. He is neither dominant nor submissive and is confident. He has a prey drive so we don't know how he would be with cats. We do not have cats in our home. He rides very well in car and jumps in. He would do well with kids 4 years old or older.

Training: Drake has started responding to his name. He needs basic training. He is very well behaved at home. He loves to romp in the yard with our other dogs and is calm after his exercise needs are met. He has tried to counter surf when he arrived but has been listening to directions and understands "No". He is not crate trained, he sleeps on floor in the bedroom with us. He is not destructive at home and does not chew. He does not like being alone and barks.

Activity requirements: Drake is an active dog but calms down and sleeps between his walks. He walks 2 to 3 times daily for 30 minutes. He loves his walks. He zigzags and pulls when he sees a squirrel and bird but is redirectable. He is safe running off leash in a secured fenced in area. He looks for openings in the yard fence but he does not try to jump on/over the fence or climb it and he does not dig.

Fence requirements: Drake needs at least 5' tall securely fenced yard to run off-leash safely. A fence is preferred but not required, as he will also do well with an active family who exercises him regularly during the day. He loves playing with other dogs and going for long walks, hiking. Invisible fence may also be considered.

Personality: Drake is a very social dog and does not like being alone. He seeks attention at times during the day by coming close for hugs. He loves playing with his foster siblings and being close to you. He loves to eat.

Health history: Drake is neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations, and on monthly heartworm prevention. His levels for Ehrlichia and Anaplasma were low positive prior to his arrival from Greece and he has been treated there with a medication for 30 days. His next SNAP test will be needed on 11/11/2025. His stool was positive for Guardia upon arrival and his subsequent stool test was negative after treatment. His next leishmaniasis test is due October 2025.

This dog originates from Greece where Leishmaniasis is endemic. They tested negative before coming to the USA, but the parasite can remain dormant in the system for many years, so potential adopters must be willing to commit to annual testing for the next 7 years. Typically, the test needs to be sent to a special lab, but any regular vet can draw the blood and send it to the lab. The cost of the test seems to vary widely by area, but is approximately $150-$250. or if your vet is willing to send the test to a veterinary college lab, cost can be as low as $80.

Foster comments: Drake is a lovely, friendly dog who loves people and other dogs. He will be a loyal companion for a family who loves to be active and is at home mostly.

Foster location: Media, PA
