Meet Autumn -- Courtesy Post

Frederick, MD. Sweet Autumn is looking for her forever home!

This adorable girl is super affectionate. And she is catching on very quickly to manners training. She is currently living with two other dogs -- a female around her age and size and a larger, senior male. She likes to play with the female and mostly ignores the male, probably sensing that he does not want to play. (Good girl!) Autumn does sometimes get a little growly over her food dish if the other dogs are nearby, but she has never escalated and has no problem with people approaching her food dish.

She is also living with indoor/outdoor cats -- when the kitties are inside, Autumn typically ignores them, but she may try to chase them when she sees them outside. A home with indoor, dog-savvy cats may work for Autumn.

Autumn can be fearful in certain situations and will generally cower, hide, or try to run away. In particular, when meeting new people, Autumn may need a couple of minutes to warm up (treats help!) and will then approach for pets and lovins. Men and teenage boys can be a bit scarier for Autumn. But if she sees that other dogs are confident in a given situation or with a new person, she will more quickly overcome her fear -- a very good sign that she will be able to gain confidence with a little help. Autumn does need a little work on her leash walking skills.

Autumn is looking for a patient adopter with a relatively quiet home who can help her gain confidence and continue to learn how to live as a pampered indoor pet and member of the family. Her current owner feels that she should go to a home without young kids due to Autumn's fearfulness; an adult-only home or a home with adults and dog-savvy teens would be great. She may like a home with another, more confident dog or puppy around her age to help her build trust and confidence (and play!). But her adopter should be prepared to do what all of us should do anyway -- separate the dogs when they eat. Autumn would likely also do well as an only dog.

Autumn's current owner took her in from a family member who could not keep her and promised to find her forever home. Her current owner has had her less than a week and has been working on housetraining (Autumn is catching on quickly) and getting Autumn comfortable in a crate. This sweetie becomes a little vocal when left alone, but this is understandable with only five days in her current home, and she is already beginning to adjust to alone time.

Autumn is about 7-8 months old and 35-40 lbs. She has no known health issues. She is scheduled for spay and vaccinations on December 3rd.

Autumn's current owner is working with us (FFOCAS) to find Autumn a new home.
