Meet our handsome Bachelor! Austin is a 7 year old lab mix that is looking for his fairy tale family. This hunk is just now back on the market and ready to mingle! We don't know his exact breed mix, but we are guessing some lab and maybe hound. Austin weighs in at 63 lbs and will not get any larger.

This lover boy is a diamond in the rough. We are not sure exactly the details of his rocky past, but we are sure glad he came into our program! He is such a sweet dog who loves all people. He gets along well with dogs and is fairly submissive. His favorite activities included playing with squeaky toys, going on walks at the park, playing with his foster siblings and cuddling on the couch.

Austin came to Stepping Stones from Forsyth County Humane Society, where he was a shelter favorite. He had just received surgery for a large perineal hernia that was just repaired and was looking for a quiet foster home to recover in. Recovery was going great when we noticed a small limp so we took him back in to our vet partner where we learned that at some point Austin had been shot with a shot gun. He does have some BBs embedded in his leg but should not need any further care for this. Despite his medical issues, Austin stayed happy go lucky the whole time while he has been healing. He is now feeling well enough to go to his forever home!

It is clear that Austin was most likely an outside dog before but he has taken to the inside life so well! He is very obedient with guidance and is house trained. Austin is crate trained, but will need a steel crate. While Austin loves people, he is likely best suited in a home with older children due to the fact he is exuberant and may easily knock over smaller kids. It's also probably best that Austin is not in an environment with shared walls (like a townhome or an apartment) because he still gets a little whiny when his foster family leaves the house. We think this will eventually fade as he settles in and gets comfortable.

Due to the ever changing COVID19 situation, we will continue to adapt our process. At this time, we are not scheduling public events or meet-and-greets in public. We will move straight to the home visit portion of the process, and we are happy to spend ample time with you there as you get to know the dog you are interested in. We ask that an application is filled out in advance of us setting up a home visit.

Please note that a home visit is a required part of our adoption process. Due to this, we are only able to consider applicants within a 45 mile radius. In some cases, we may extend this radius at our discretion. The adoption fee is $200. This is non-negotiable. It does include spay/neuter of the puppies when they are old enough.
