Meet Athena
Athena
Old gal, but still very spry. HW neg, spayed and healthy. Super well behaved in the house. Housebroken, crate trained (say “kennel” from anywhere in the house and in she goes) and very calm most of the time. Until she feels the need to protect her owner. Loves her twice daily walks and cherishes a sofa or bed. She’s had a hard, abusive life before we took her in so she deserves the best now. She’s wary of men on first meeting but best approach is for them to ignore her. Once she realizes they will not hurt her she is fine. We haven’t tested her yet with kids but because of her fear and inexperience with them we’d suggest older kids only. Or none. We also don’t know about other dogs. She wants to go near them when out on a walk but because of leashes we don’t think it’s a fair test.
She did live with another dog though before we got her. She came to us scared and wary of all people but after only a week of attention, affection, and being treated like a normal dog, she has shown much progress. We would suggest her home be a woman who is not timid and can help her acclimate to her new life as a spoiled, appreciated angel!
8 yrs old, 50lbs.

If you are interested in meeting and/or adopting, the first step is to please visit our website to complete an application and read all of our FAQs: https://www.takepawsrescue.org/adopt
**Please do not use the "Introduce Yourself" feature. The information needed to determine if you might be a match for one of our animals can only be found on our application. An inquiry, question, or introduction through Petfinder is NOT an application. All known details about our animals are posted on their profile and updated daily. Other info would be discussed in detail with the foster during the application review process. Due to the number of introductions/questions received (hundreds daily) we ask you submit an application on our website (that application can be used for any dog with Take Paws Rescue).
The adoption fee for adult dogs covers age appropriate vaccinations, microchip, spay/neuter if not yet performed, heartworm test & appropriate heartworm treatment by the rescue's vet. All dogs in our care are also kept up-to-date on HW/Flea Prevention. Please see our website for more information.
2021 Adoption Fee Scale for non-benefactor animals:
Puppies under 12 months - $300
Dogs over 12 months - $200
*Take Paws Rescue saves dogs from high-kill shelters in Southeast Louisiana, owner surrenders, and discarded dogs with uncertain futures. All of our animals live in foster homes where they are socialized, and well cared for. An application will be required to make sure it’s the perfect match!
For additional information, including the adoption process and our adoption fee scale for all our adoptable pets, see our FAQs page: https://www.takepawsrescue.org/faq
*Any breed labels used by Take Paws Rescue, its employees/volunteers, or on vet records provided cannot be guaranteed. Breed labels are given based on information obtained during intake and/or best guesses based on appearance and/or temperament of the dogs and Take Paws Rescue gives no assurance to the accuracy of these labels. Labels are necessary for postings to many animal networking sites, such as Pet Finder, and are no way a guarantee. Additionally, exact age and potential size cannot be guaranteed.
