Meet Artur

I wouldn't believe the story I am about to share if our own team hadn't been involved from the very beginning - meet Arthur, a dog who is narrowly escaped an almost certain death.

Here’s the timeline of his incredible journey.

On May 2nd, one of our partner shelters in the valley received a call about a dog that had been attacked a week earlier.

The dog had received no medical care and was now lethargic.

When we didn’t hear anything for a few days and no injured pug was turned in, we feared the worst.

Neglect leading to a dog's death, sadly, isn’t uncommon in the area.

To our utter shock, on May 10th, we were informed that this dog had finally been turned into the shelter, now with a rotting wound full of necrotic tissue.

Our incredible volunteer rushed over to pick him up and take him to an emergency vet.

The smell was overwhelming.

The vet stabilized Arthur enough for transport, and he was rushed to Houston, where it was confirmed that the skin around the wound had detached, and the wound was not healing.

Surgery was the only option.

Arthur underwent debulking and debridement of the large, infected area over his shoulder.

Much tissue was removed, and the infection was so severe that a JP drain was placed to let the wound drain while it healed.

He remained hospitalized until the drain could be removed, and then he finally came home to us.

How Arthur survived for two weeks after a vicious attack is a mystery.

The fact that he didn’t become septic is a miracle.

But this miracle dog is now with us, showing off his stunning wrinkles and amazing personality.
