Breed: Formosan Mountain Dog mixed - our best guess
Gender: Spayed female
Age: About 3 years old (est. DOB: 10/10/2021)
Weight: Fully grown approximately 40+ lbs.
Color: Brindle
About Apple -
Apple was adopted at a young age by her former owner. Because of financial problems and moving, the former owner wasn’t able to secure a rental place suitable to keep her. The owner then asked for help online, wondering if anyone would adopt Apple. We decided to rescue Apple, transitioning her from Kaohsiung (city in southern Taiwan) to Taichung (city in central Taiwan) and finding her a foster. What we did not expect was to find out that she was diagnosed with heartworm disease when the blood work was done at the vet. There had to be a follow up examination after 6 months following the initial heartworm treatment to ensure full recovery. Time passed just like that and it had been more than 8 months now. Apple is calm and friendly. We’re hoping to find her a suitable loving place to call home while she’s still young. She deserves to be loved and cared for.
It took her 3 days at the current foster home to open up. She was hiding inside the crate the first day and finally came out the 2nd day. Apple loves to shake hands and show her belly.
Apple with Kids: She would shake kids' hands and take treats from them but would back away when they try to pet her at first. After 1-2 weeks, even kids can give Apple a bath.
Apple with strangers: She is alert with strangers and sometimes would bark at them if they try to approach her.
Apple with dogs: She's alert/ indifferent and would stay away from other dogs at first. After a while, she'd play with other dogs. She can get pretty wild when playing with other dogs. ***Please see video labeled "Apple play with Carrie"***
She's never got into fights with other dogs but will low growl at unfriendly dogs.
Apple with cats: Recommend a home without cats as Apple plays rough. ***Please see video labeled "Apple play with Carrie"***
Bad habits: She chews on things when she's bored and it helps with toys/ treats to keep her entertained.
Potty: She'd do her business outdoor on grass and when she's indoor, currently she does her business on training pads.
She does not have food protection but would get mad when other dogs try to get inside her crate when she's inside.
Medical:
Apple is spayed, microchipped and vaccinated.
She tested positive to heartworm in November 2023 and has since recovered after medical treatment. (PCR test showed negative in June 2024)
Heartworm treatment: 2 shots of RM340 (1.7ml IM) on November-10-2023 and November-11-2023Oral medication: November-04-2023 ~ December-02-2023PCR retest on June-29-2024 : Negative to Dirofilaria immitis
