Anya Husky Mix Rochester, NY

ANYA is a gorgeous year old Husky mix. She's fully vetted and is a very sweet dog. She loves people (eventually) but is very cautious and nervous when first meeting people and loves and plays with the dogs in her foster home, as well.

Anya is one of our few dogs who requires a fenced in yard as she requires more exercise than the average dog due to her breed mix and age. We've found she loves the water and will jump right in a kiddy pool if it's out. She will run her heart out around the yard with other dogs and playing with her people. Anya is also making strides in her housetraining, but it is a work in progress. She's eager to please, though.

Anya's foster is also working on leash walking (they have a fenced in yard) using a double leash/harness for extra security - but her adopter should ONLY start that with her once she is comfortable with the person walking her, and in a quiet environment.

As we've said, Anya IS nervous and shy around new people and will need to go through a 2-week "shutdown" and use owner tethering especially at first to help her bond to her new people and come out of her shell. This works! We will talk to potential adopters about that - and an extended 3 month trial is available for Anya to give time for this process to happen for best success. In this case, we would require the adopter to go through our recommended steps and give it at least 2 weeks before returning her, or the adoption fee return would be forfeit. (we unfortunately have had a rash of people adopting dogs they were told were very shy and slow to open up and needed time and patience, and then returning them within hours for that very thing - we want to give our dogs the best chance for success!)

Adoption fee covers: all vetting to age (including deworming, deflea etc ), spay/neuter and microchip after 6 months of age at our clinic, $60 rebate for completion of positive-based training classes, and lifetime support of rescue.

We do most application processing virtually and dog meets will be individually by appointment with ONLY APPROVED APPLICANTS. We are not a shelter and are completely foster-based, so there is no central place to come see all of the dogs available.

PLEASE NOTE: If a dog is listed as Adoptable, he or she is still available at that time. Also, our adoption area is within a several hour radius of us in Rochester, NY (NOT including Canada - sorry!)
