Meet Anna the dog

WE ARE NOT A SHELTER. WE ARE A NO-KILL 501-C-3 NON-PROFIT RESCUE: To see an animal, you must fill out an application first and then once approved, we can set up for you to meet the animal you are interested in.

Here is the Dog Application that you can copy and paste into a browser: https://fs17.formsite.com/waverlypetrescue/form028182466/index.html

Anna was found as a very skinny stray near Grundy Center, IA around 2/1/2025. She was hanging out around a farmhouse regularly, and they wanted to get her out of the freezing temps. The dogs in the house didn't get along well with other dogs, so they asked a WPR Foster family for help. She did not get claimed or have a microchip, so she is now living in that foster home. Anna is now spayed, up to date on shots, and tested heartworm negative.

Anna is a female German Shorthair Pointer mix about 1-2 years old. After a vet check, vaccinations, and spay she is living in a WPR foster home with two other dogs and 4 cats. At the vet check she was a VERY SKINNY at only 56lbs. Now she is starting to fill out, and we estimate a healthy weight will be around 65-70lbs

Anna is sweet and friendly, along with very energetic and playful. Anna enjoys attention and being petted. She loves to play (roughhouse) with the other dogs. She does pretty good sharing toys with the other dogs, but there have been a few disagreements. We think if she is paired with another dog that can match her energy level and is her size or larger she would do great.

She does ok with the cats, but I wouldn't say she would be good in a home with cats. If the cat reacts to her then she gets excited and chases them. if they ignore her, or don't react, she will sniff and maybe nudge them with her nose and move on. It really would be best if she has a home with no cats.

She is potty trained, and crate trained, she is responding well to a citronella training collar to help tame her excitement and barking. We are still working on some bad habits that come from lack of food. She still does seek out any source of food she can smell, so she tends to check kitchen counters for food (Training collar is helping with this), and she eats in the crate, so she doesn't bother the other dogs. She is extremely food motivated. Since we have her in the crate when we are gone, feeding her in the crate was a simple solution to make things less chaotic. I wouldn't go so far to say she is aggressive (like go up to another dog eating and show teeth/biting to take the food). She has shown a few signs of food defense. if others come up to the crate. But she is fine if she is out of the crate and no food is around.

A fenced in Yard is required. She doesn't like to be outside by herself for long though. She likes you or another dog with her. But when she is outside with our dog. they will run around the yard for 5-10 minutes and burn off energy.

Anna is a great dog and deserves a great home!

Will someone please adopt Anna and give her a forever home? $250.00 adoption fee.

WE ARE A NO-KILL 501-C-3 NON-PROFIT RESCUE. All donations are tax deductible. We do not have a shelter. All pets live in foster homes. We only adopt to indoor homes. To see an animal, you must fill out an application first and then once approved, we can set up for you to meet the animal you are interested in. We do background checks on all applicants. If you have assault, domestic abuse, or drug charges please do not apply. If you have questions, please send an email to waverlypetrescue@mchsi.com

All animals see a vet for shots and normal exams. If they appear healthy and there are no obvious health concerns, then extensive testing is not done. This is normal procedure for pet rescues and shelters.
Waverly Pet Rescue puts a lot of money into medical care for each dog and cat we take in. $350 is the average cost for basic care. This does not include if the animal had an injury, required extra flea / ear mite treatments, or needed extra days at the vet office.
