Meet Angel

Introducing Angel, a beautiful 1-year-old German Shepherd who's ready for her forever home! She came to us as a stray, initially struggling with some fly bites on the tips of her ears and being underweight. Thankfully, her ears have healed, and she's gained the much-needed weight.

Like any shepherd, Angel has a lot of energy and would benefit from training and regular exercise. So far, she knows "sit," but she's very smart and driven, so she could easily learn more commands. We highly recommend that anyone looking to adopt her work on basic obedience and behavioral training. Angel prefers to potty outside rather than in her kennel, but she may have occasional accidents overnight. We have tested her with various dogs, and at this time, we believe she is not ready to be in a home with another dog. We also cannot confidently recommend a home with cats.

Keep in mind that Angel can still be a bit jumpy and clumsy, so she would do best in a home without young or small children. However, she is incredibly friendly with everyone she meets and is very people-oriented, always seeking love and affection!

Angel is currently in a Medical Foster. This is so she can go through her heartworm treatment outside of the stressful shelter environment. Keeping low activity and stress levels are very important during heartworm treatment. If you are unfamiliar with heartworm, fear not the disease is not contagious, meaning that a dog cannot catch the disease from being near an infected dog. Heartworm disease is only spread through the bite of a mosquito. The treatment for Heartworm means that she needs limited activity for the next 8 to 12 weeks. If you take Angel home, FMAR will be with you at every step of her treatment, and the Medical Fostering would be transferred to you. The dog staff here can give you more information on training and activities that would be appropriate during her treatment process and she will also be on meds to help keep her calm. Once Angel has completed her treatment, she's ready to be officially adopted!

If you're looking for a loving companion who needs some guidance and a lot of love, Angel might be the perfect match for you. She's eager to learn and ready to fill your life with joy!

If you would like to meet Angel, please submit an application for her on our website https://www.friendsofmichigan.org/adoptable-dogs. She is spayed, up to date on all age appropriate vaccines, microchipped, and on monthly flea & tick prevention. She is not on heartworm prevention currently due to having heartworm. Once the treatment is completed she can start taking monthly heartworm prevention. Her adoption fee is $250, which helps cover the cost of the medical care she has received.

**Each dog is different, so each adoption is different. Our adoption process might require multiple visits to the shelter before our dogs can go home. Or they may be ready on the first visit. It really depends on the individual dog and the potential adopters. Once we receive your application, the Dog Staff will contact you to discuss meeting our dogs.
